It's Feburary 14th, Valentine's Day....
"Great! I can't be late to school!!! Not today!" yells Kevin as he bolts it down the street to the bus stop. " Hey," says Jay as Kevin jogs up, " figured you were'nt coming for a second there." "And miss my big day? Yeah right." "Your big day? Oh, you mean you're actually going going to tell Alison today?" Asks Jay as he bends down to tie his shoe. "Well not exactly. I wrote this..." He pulls a letter out of his backpack and shows it to his friend. "You wrote her a love letter? Kevin you dork! You know how cheesey that is going to seem right? You'll be the laughing stock of the 5th grade." Kevin shoves the letter back in his bag, " So what if it's corny, I like the way it turned out." Jay shakes his head and laughs. Just then the bus pulls up.
************************************************
After signing up for the Valentine's Day card delivery thing that the 3rd graders where holding, Kevin and Jay head off to lunch. Little did Kevin know, his letter would not only find him the perfect girl but a summer he will never forget.
"Okay Class," Said Mrs. Covert, "It's almost time for the little kids to pass out the Valentine's Day cards. I want you all to set a good example for them by being the mature children we all know you can be..." "Yeah you should see some of these kids when they try to be mature," Whispers Jay snickering, "you think we're immature now." " Do you have something you'd like to add on to that Mr. Welton?" Asks Mrs. Covert, turning her attention to Jay. " No ma'am." Looking back to the class, Mrs. Covert continues." Good then. Okay class, get out whatever Valentine's things you have to pass out and get started. Ms. Fate is going to be watching you from across the hall, I'll be back momentarily." She says as she steps out the door. " And remember," she looks directly at Jay and Kevin, "behave."
***************************************************
Shortly afterwards she returns and following her are five little girls dressed as fairies.
"Happy Valentine's Day" say the little girls as they pull out the first of the letters. One by one the little girls empty out their bags for that class. "Hey Kevin..." Kevin looks over at Jay "Which Alison were you giving the letter to exactly?" Confused Kevin asks what he means. "Well look, that's your letter isn't it? I didn't know you liked Fay." "How did it get to Alison Fay??? I didn't send it to her!" Whammy one, the wrong Alison gets the letter. "Well you at least sorta like her right?" "She's plain as day, why would I like her???" "Well She's looking at you. Plain as day or not you should go talk to her."
*************************************************
Not quite knowing what to expect Kevin walks over to Alison and explains what happened.
"Oh..." Says Alison, looking down. "Look, I'm really sorry Alison, it was a stupid mistake." says Kevin running his fingers though his hair. Whammy one, he thinks to himself. The wrong girl get's the note... "No, it's fine. Really. " She looks up and smiles, "I completely understand..." She looks down again and messes with the piece of paper she's holding. "Something wrong?" He studies her face. She doesn't look upset to him but you never know with girls. "Not really, I'm just trying to think of the right way to say this......" He watches her confused. "Hmmm... Well I sorta like you." She looks up to see his reaction. He stands there shocked. "What do you mean, 'you like me' ?" "I mean exactly what I said. I've had a crush on you for a while now, I just never really knew how to tell you." "Ummm... you know I like the other Alison right?" "Yeah, you already explained all that." She looks back down, "that doesn't mean I can't tell you I like you though."
************************************************
Kevin Looks back at Jay hoping he could help him, even in the slightest of ways, but Jay had his own problems to deal with.
"How exactly do you like me? We don't even know each other that well." asks Kevin, still confused by the whole situation. 'Whammy two, She likes me and got the note. This is bad.' he thinks "Well, you're one of the more mature guys in the class, you're funny..." "Yeah about as funny as a balloon," He mumbles. "You don't think your funny?" " No. I'm boring..." "Well I think you're funny. And you're really smart. You made the honor roll twice, and is at the top of the class grade wise right now." "Yeah but so is Jay..." "Jay is a jerk." She states bluntly, "I probably wouldn't like him if he were the last guy on earth." Not that far behind them Jay looks up. "Yeah, he can be a jerk at times but he isn't that bad once you get to know him." Kevin says defensively. Alison rolls her eyes. " I suppose that's you opinion. Anyways you should probably got tell Ally you like her before a line starts." says Alison standing up to go throw away the paper. "Ally?" "You never realized we had nicknames?" asks Alison. "She goes by Ally, I go by Alice. It's been that way since we were little. Well see you around." says Alison as she waves and walks off.
*************************************************
It's now the last day of school. Kevin and Alison haven't really spoken to each other since Valentine's Day but she's hoping to change that.
"Hey." Says Alison walking up, "How've you been?" "..." "Kevin..." He looks up from the book he was reading, "Oh, hey Alice." He looks back down at his book while she sits next to him. "Oh I'm sorry," he says looking back up and setting down the book. "Was there something you needed?" "No, I just wanted to ask you something. It's nothing important though." "Well go ahead, I'm not really doing anything." He holds up his book, " I've already read all of these before. The library just didn't have anything else to read." "Well I was wondering if maybe you wanted to hang out tomorrow.. I mean if Jay goes to his grandpa's anyway." "Sure," says Kevin smiling, "I don't have any plans. Plus it's the first day of break, I'm pretty sure Jay'll be gone by tomorrow morning." "Ok" says Alison and she gets up and smiles, "I'll see you tomorrow then."
**************************************************
They end up spending the next month and a half becoming good friends since Jay was out of town visiting his grandfather. During this time Kevin begins to like Ally less and less and Alice more and more.
"So," Says Alison turning around and watching Kevin, "what should we do today?" "I don't really know... Anything you wanna do?" Alison sighs, "Kevin I've been picking what we do almost every time we hang out. It's your turn." she says slightly annoyed. Kevin laughs, "Well I don't really feel like doing anything today. How about we go for a walk? The park isn't that far from here." " Ok, a walk sounds fun. Plus if we wait a little while, we can go up to the hill and and watch the sun set." She replies cheerfully. "I haven't been up there to see the sun set in along time." "Ok we can do that then. Let's go around six, I can try to get my mom to make us a picnic too." "Ok." Says alison as she turns and starts walking down the street. She stops and turns back around, "I'll meet you around six at the hill then?" "Yup." Says KEvin as he watches her turn around and run off toward her house.
**************************************************
So They meet and eat dinner while waiting for the sun to set...
"So...." Says Kevin, watching the sun as it slips behind some clouds, "the food was ok right?" "Yeah." She says as she looks at him and smiles, "It was great." "Ok, that's good." Says Kevin relieved, "My mom made me make everything so I didn't know how it would taste." "
