Into the real world I do, boldly going where no Starcommander has gone before. Yes, I am still the Starcommander! Even if I never write it out anymore.
Currently watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood on Funimation's website. It's a blast, it really is. You all out there must watch.
Until Next Time!

Woah...
I originally started here way back in 2003 on another username. I totally missed the part where the primary workings of myOtaku took place on theOtaku. And here I thought member connections had just died off or something. Part of me was also waiting on the myOtaku Revolution, when all the old features would return and be cooler than before. Oh, well. :p
I get to go welcome new people, now, but there doesn't appear to be anyway to see all member rankings or to go to a random page, like before. Welcoming new people is fun, though. ^_^
All these years, and myOtaku is still my favorite blog service, over Wordpress, MySpace, and deviantART (which is AWESOMENESS, so it's a very close call). I tried Xanga, too, and still preferred myOtaku for many reasons. It's consistent and loads reliably. I just wish they hadn't killed the profile with their character limiting. I wish I could comment on my own avatar like before and I wish that I could change my music, or at least play it. Oh, well.
I also wish that signing in to myOtaku, theOtaku, or the forum would sign me into all of them. ...I can't get into the forum. :p Comments (0) |

Anime Update
As is only appropriate for someone who has a myOtaku journal site, I feel I must update on my life as an anime fan.
I WENT TO MY FIRST CONVENTION!
Aaaand nobody cares. Because no one ever reads this (for that matter, no one ever updates anymore, either...I just deleted a bunch of people who haven't been on in over a year). But that's okay! I still had a lot of fun, and ran around dressed in cosplay (can you guess who I was?). Totally awesome, totally one of the most fantastic experiences ever, totally on my todo list for next year.
I'm watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood as it updates to Funimation's website. Why am I waiting instead of watching it elsewhere? Because I know for certain that I can get good subtitles from Funimation. I do not appreciate having to translate English subtitles into coherent English sentences while I'm trying to watch a show. I just want to watch the show.
And it is AWESOMENESS! ... nobody tell me what happens...I don't know want to know.
I am also starting to watch The Vision of Escaflowne, as I now am starting to remember what it was about the series that had me so interested.
Fullmetal Alchemist
I sat down and watched the entire series with my brother. ... I get it now!!! I mean, I thought I got it before, but now that I have watched the entire thing, without missing a beat, I really understand it! Everything makes sense, now! :D So, yes, I am a happy, happy person.
...and I have free pizza.
Also ... went back and deleted almost all of my old posts except for a few I thought might be particularly interesting, somehow or other. Comments (0) |

When you begged to go to McDonalds for dinner everyday.
When Toys R Us ruled the mall.
Go back to the time when:
Decisions were made by going 'eeny-meeny-miney-moe'.
Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming 'do over!'
'Race issue' meant arguing about who ran the fastest.
Money issues were handled by whoever was banker in 'Monopoly'.
It wasn't odd to have two or three 'best' friends.
Being old referred to anyone over 20.
A chance to skate as a couple at the local roller rink was like winning the lottery.
Scrapes & bruises were kissed & made better.
Where the best form of protection was "circle circle dot dot now I've got my cootie shot, circle circle square square now I've got it everywhere"
It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the 'big people' rides at the fair.
When playing Nintendo was the hardest thing ever.
When Ninja Turtles ruled the world.
Before we realized all this would eventually disappear...
Question
Do you think that fantasy and science fiction should always be grouped together as they commonly are in movie stores, bookstores, ect. or do you think they should be separated? What is the difference between the two genres? Do you even think there is any difference at all? I'm just curious to know what all people have to say about this - that is, what few people read this in the first place. (Yes! Yes! Seperate! So people can tell the difference! I mean, Issac Asimov and R.A. Salvatore so seriously do not need to be in the same section of the bookstore together. I've always wanted a crossover section for writers who publish in both genres)
Ex: Ghost in the Shell and Princess Mononoke, for all you anime people. If, hypothetically speaking, these were books to be shelved like any other books, that is, by genre, these would be found under the same catagory! Whether labeled Sci-fi, fantasy, or both. Or western, for that matter. (*snickers at B&N.* They always have something other than western under the western sign at this one location nearby.)
On that note: Fantasy and horror. What's the difference? Especially if the subject matter is something like monsters, werebeasts, or vampires? Should vampire and werewolf novels be counted as fantasy? (I personally refer to books under such a catagory as "dark fantasy," though I have never heard anyone else use the term.)
Surreal or supernatural tales that take place in the real world and focus more or less on real people: What do you call this? Niel Gaiman and Dean Kootz are decent examples of this, sometimes. Maybe Clive Barker? Too realistic to be fantasy and too surreal to be generic fiction. (I once had a classmate who called this "magical realism," and I so liked the term that I never forgot it.)
Do you think that manga and graphic novels should be separated? (they're not anymore) Comments (1) |

Update
Welll...propositional logic isn't all That bad. It's just...mathematic-like. I'm starting to talk to my professor outside of class, which should help because he tends to give far too many examples in class and tries too hard to help us understand. It's kind of...frustrating sometimes.
Shadowkitty's gotten me into Sailor Moon and Samurai Pizza Cats because she's good at finding good stuff and introducing people to it and she found episodes of the animes on YouTube. She also got me into Gundam Wing, among other things that I can't think of at the moment.
The first half of the first episode of the very short series "Samurai Pizza Cats"
GOOD GRIEF!
So we got into this big debate in logic the other day over an issue in propositional logic. A boy in the back of the class had gone and read all nine chapters of the text in order to understand it (we skipped from one to six, which confused the professor when he said he'd read nine chapters because we're only on our second.). He and I and I don't know who all else all had the same issue of trying to figure out the difference between A > (~B v ~C) **substituting > for the horseshoe sign thing** and A > ~(B v C). He got caught up in this excitable frenzy of trying to figure it out and wrote out his understanding of the thing on the board. So this debate went on and on while some other bright boy in the front of the class copied his own notes to the board. And all of a sudden, the thing was crystal clear. Now I've got to do is look at the CD-ROM and remember the thing for tomorrow's test. :p
On a crappier note, I am once again faced with the fact that I am not the person I was when I graduated high school. Okay, so I usually get like this when I'm lacking sleep, but still . . . I hate it! I really, really cannot stand being like this. I hate feeling so brainless. It's one of the worst feelings I know - being used to being a "bright" person and then suddenly being so slow and realizing what I actually had going for me. I want it back! Comments (1) |

Logic is a contortion of the English language. It's fascinating, but when you get into that propositional malarkey....
In the meantime, this is a Gundam Wing video that I like. I personally faved a different version on my account and I was going to post that one, but this one is actually undoubtedly better, as much as I like the other one.
SPOILERS ABOUND for the series and the Endless Waltz movie.
