Version Vibrant Teaser Trailer
I've been working with a talented AMV creator to produce a video teaser trailer for Version Vibrant. It'll be short but will give you a first look. About 50% done now, hopefully will be ready by the end of the month. Comments (14) |

In anticipation of the Will Smith movie I AM LEGEND, I went to Borders today and read the book from start to finish. What an amazing read, highly recommended....
I will be going home for Thanksgiving tomorrow...
Also, what are your thoughts about dropping 'voting' from fan art/fan manga? Since we log views and have favoriting (which is more useful for the person doing it), I'm not sure how useful they are anymore. Comments (19) |

Thanksgiving Quandary
Should I go home for Thanksgiving? It's an annoying train ride and I'm so busy it'll throw me off track but my parents are guilt-inducing Comments (19) |

Whatever Happened to ArigatoDaily?
Who here remembers that side project idea I had years ago called ArigatoDaily? It never materialized but I don't think I ever explained the idea behind it:
It was going to be a humor blog about all things quirky in Japan--YouTube videos of Japanese commercials, odd news items, posts about TV shows there, etc., etc
I think it could be run with one great lead writer willing to post a few times every day and a couple contributers. Hm... Comments (17) |

Small Story About Standing Up To Evil
Not sure why I remembered this story just now, but it's something I take great pride in
As some of you know I started a web hosting business in 2003, about the same time as myOtaku launched. The business was called Velegant Web Hosting. We were running out of money at the time and VBH helped generate the revenue we needed to stay afloat until things improved with the network. It was a white knight, so to speak, and I made sure everyone who signed up received the absolute best service and support.
(Business-wise, I saved the Velegant domain and registered the business behind the site as Velegant Media in honor of that project.)
One day I received an angry email. A man named Mr. Bacon had demanded that I shut down one of my client's websites immediately because of accusations related to copyright infringement, spamming, etc. This guy also threatened us saying that his lawyer would be in touch if we didn't act immediately
I was in a difficult position. We were just barely afloat financially and couldn't afford any type of legal trouble. Adding to it, this client was a difficult one who had a lot of time-intensive needs. I think most businesses would have just told him to go elsewhere and turned their attention to more profitable matters
Instead, I went into investigator mode and did a thorough check on the issue. It turned out the complaint was from my client's competitor, who from what I gathered, seemed like an all-around sleazy guy.
I emailed him and told him that I was under no circumstances shutting down that site and that he'd have to submit written proof of any wrong-doing. I was willing to put everything on the line for a client who was probably more trouble than he was worth
It was a bold move given our situation at the time, but in the end, after hurling more legal threats at us with no actual proof, he gave up. The client who I stood up for is still hosted with us, 4 years later Comments (10) |

- So Gia will be flying in for NYAF. It'll be me, Ramen, and her representing theO and covering the event. If anyone else on the team is interested in attending, my apartment is small so accommodations won't be the best, but I do have Mario Galaxy :-).
- I went to Borders today for an hour and just sat in the cafe and finished a graphic novel. I'm thinking of making them my official office since it's nearby and huge, with WiFi too. Free books and there was an amusing group of Japanese tourists near me, too
- Some levels in Mario Galaxy are frustrating, especially the ones where you have to use the Wii-mote to balance and move across narrow passes in the sky
- I probably spend more time hyping Version Vibrant than actually working on it @_@
Also: Here's a trailer for My Sassy Girl, the Korean movie I recommended earlier:
Quick Notes
- Super Mario Galaxy ROCKS. So much fun; I want to play it again and again and again...
- Bellpickle is scarred for life...wait until she finds out how many Korean movies I've seen
- If I could make multiple myOtaku sites, I'd consider making one on cooking, where I'd just post pictures of my lunch or dinner every night. Comments (11) |

Italian Cooking
I made Italian sausage hot dogs today...they take forever to cook. I thought they were done, cut them open, and inside...pink!
I also went to Toys R Us to pick up a copy of Mario Galaxy. Toys R Us has a deal where if you buy the game, you get a $25 gift card. That effectively makes it half off, which is awesome.
However, when I arrived, they hadn't received the game yet...oh well, back to Mario 3...
(A note about Mario 3 for the NES: How on earth could anyone beat it? There were no saves in the original version and it's been 4 days now and I'm still working through via Wii's auto save feature.)
I've been spending a lot of time thinking about our upcoming main page
Our current main page doesn't properly unify our network and doesn't immediately convey what we're all about
It's going to be a challenge...
Question: Would you rather one of your friends cooked you a special dinner or took you out to a restaurant to celebrate a special day? Comments (17) |
