Vampire
I really have to get my sleeping habits under control. This is ridiculous.

I slept from 9 PM to 3:30 AM (6.5 hours) and I've been up since then. Have to start getting ready for work soon :-)!

I've been feeling sentimental lately...I guess that comes with aging...

I wrote up this brief timeline of major new projects / new site launches that I oversaw. I know OB has had a million of them but that's all been under James' watch.

What's insane is that Massin was the creator of Absolute Zelda back in 1999. And here he is now our head of development :). I met Justin and later James in 2000 when theOtaku became gaming and anime.

(Yes, there was an OtakuPoetry at one point. It did pretty well but it got so many submissions I couldn't keep up with it.)

Strange Email
What does he mean oct-nov issue??

i am a graffiti artist/ spoken word artist.i've recently just fallen in love with your publications from the oct-nov '06 issue and i basically would love for more kids in the townships to be exposed to the world of anime,it would be my honour to do outdoor/street advertising for otaku mag in mural and graffitti style. for a more vivid discription of my idea donnot hasitate to contact me.'just imagine manga on city walls'in advertisement of the next issue.

On Advertising
A lot of theOtaku.com's ability to grow hinges on its ability to attract high-quality, targeted advertising (and then making sure the advertising does well). I hate seeing so many "punch the monkey" ads on the site...

I've been working very hard building the most kick-butt advertiser kit. It contains detailed information about theO.

(That's one of the reasons the survey was proctored.)

I'm using all my eBook design skills to pretty it up, having created Art Of Otaku and Artpreneurship. Fun.

Potential Habits
There are a few habits I want to create yet. It's important though to limit new habits to one per month, otherwise you lose focus.

(1) Need to laugh more often. Laughter has a ridiculous number of health benefits.

(2) Need to make some days during the week "no work days." I pretty much work 24/7 :-).

(3) Need to send Ichigo more fan mail.

Habit Building
Here's a fun and useful activity:

Online or in a journal write down a habit you'd like to work on. For example: "Reading at least 10 minutes every day." (This is a GREAT one btw.)

Focus only on this habit, figuring out ways how to make it a part of your routine. After 1 month of constant work, if you've acquired the habit, put it under a "Completed" heading and start anew with something else. You'll have 12 habits a year if you keep it up.

Every few weeks review the list of habits you've completed. If you notice you've been breaking one, stop everything and go back to it until it's returned.

You'll know you've picked up a habit when, if you haven't done it one day, you feel very uncomfortable.

I'm on new habit #5, personally :-). What habit would you like to acquire?

Massin is going to take a little break from TheOtaku to focus all his energies on reviving AOO: Sessions. We're going to redo the whole thing from the ground up. (I'm going to have a lot of tutorials to re-input.)

There's no one I trust more for the task...we're probably looking at a July/August go.

In terms of TheOtaku programming, we have a great new version coming up. James' design is almost finalized, so I'm either going to start making all the incremental upgrades necessary to accommodate it or find someone else who can...

Typical Otakuite
She's 16 years old, in high school. She reads manga obsessively, watches anime whenever it's on and plays a lot of video games, either Nintendo games or PS2 RPGs. She's also highly artistic/creative and is not afraid to share her artwork and fan creations online.

The typical otakuite spends about $31 / month on fandom products and her favorite colors are blue and black. (Ironically the colors of MyOtaku.)
