Cool Note
- MTV will be sending a representative to AnimeFF for a small documentary. Am very excited about seeing the gallery live.

- theOtaku's presence at AnimeFF would be screwed without Gail, she an amazing organizer.

- Hehe some people wonder why PS3's are first and second place while Wii's are 3-8. Duh, you can sell your PS3 and buy 2 Wii's plus games (or an Xbox + games) :-).

- Since announcing the contest, our unique visitors are up (makes sense, lots of buzz) but our total page views are down drastically, which does hurt. People read the announcement and then they stop browsing for whatever reason. But you know, I have to jump on all opportunities to shower artists with recognition/opportunities/and bling.

- I hope to spoil artists to the best of my abilities. I've always loved making long-winded announcements/speeches, but as SomeGuy said this contest will force me to raise the bar for subsequent announcements. "The new Art Of Otaku is awesome, but where are the thousands of dollars in prizes?" hehe

- For those wondering, the parent company of the convention owns a video game business of sorts, so they had no problem providing the consoles.

- It's sad we couldn't accomodate international visitors. This was something I brought up very early on--as you remember I'm very international-friendly. Our last few contests were international in scope and I even shipped theOtaku t-shirts overseas when doing so resulted in a financial loss. Art Of Otaku CD's also ship internationally with no added charge, I often have to pay $10-15 per order to do this.

The short is, shipping consoles overseas is a HUGE pain, not even considering that consoles are region-encoded, so they wouldn't even work in most countries.

Three months ago I shipped Massin a pair of shoes. He's based in Canada--it was a nightmare. It took over a month for the shoes just to get through customs and for a week we were told they were probably lost. There was no tracking in place either because of some peculiar union laws. And those were shoes, imagine shipping a PS3. If someone doesn't get their prize it turns into a liability for the convention.

- Here's a fun video by Utada Hikaru:

Have you seen the list of sites that are helping promote the contest/convention? I think it's the first time the anime/gaming site community has jointly come together to promote anything.

The entries thus far have really been stellar too, I can't imagine how good they'll be come the 20th.

I'm so exhausted and a bit overwhelmed...

I know a lot of people were skeptical, but did I really disappoint with my announcement of one of the best anime art contests ever conceived :-)?

I've been accused of over-hyping...not this time.

We're making a big push to get more people to pre-register for AnimeFF in Vegas.

We needed something to build buzz, something big.

Check theOtaku.com's page either Monday or Tuesday night for the announcement that we came up with.

Yes, only artists will shriek, but even non-artists can admire how awesome it will be.

I'm very excited :-).

Fan Manga Leader
I need a leader for the fan manga site; someone who can moderate it, give feedback/advice to new fan manga creators, and do a weekly news post highlighting the best series.

Comment if interested, this is an important section so I'm going to be really selective on it. You get a bonus if you yourself are a fan manga contributer.

Troopers,

My power adapter replacement arrived and is in good order. I have a lot of catching up to do. As I told Kei, modestly:

"I saw the movie Superman returns tonight...so it is fitting that now, I, return."

I'm going to make the announcement I teased you earlier about in our first newsletter mailing. So if you're not subscribed, get to it!

For now, I have a TON of Art Of Otaku stuff to take care of. I will say off the bat though that the design on this reimagining will be dozens of stacked giraffe heads above the last one.

Web Hosting
As many of you know I ran a web hosting business between 2003 and 2005 (and, great sign, still serve a few of our original subscribers today).

Anyway, related to that experience, I'm going to make a fun announcement soon. If you're a young artist, perk your ears.

It's not one of my "big bets", but it's an idea that came to me a couple days ago that stuck.

Happy Thanksgiving!
...And woe to the guy/girl on the train who stole my bag of clothes (plus, annoyingly, my laptop power adapter).

Wiiiii
I waited in line for six hours.

But I'm one of the first people in the US to buy the Wii. (The joys of living in NYC.)

So far played Zelda and Wii Sports, the system is SOOOOO good, so much fun, recommended.
