This Weekend...
Either Friday or Sunday (haven't decided), I'll be at AnimeNext, a convention near NYC in New Jersey. I'll have a theOtaku noose (i.e. press pass) wrapped around my neck and will be wearing a slick black theOtaku t-shirt.

(I'll also have really low quality business cards.)

Should be fun. Hopefully there'll be a lot of members/visitors there. I'll offer the first 1-2 people to say 'hi' a free Art of Otaku download. If you'll be there let me know.

Today I worked on speeding the site up again. Apparently the 'random fan art' and 'random wallpapers' links were eating up a lot of resources so I've taken them down for the time being...

How Do You Relax?
Working and playing are both dandy, but what's life without proper periods of relaxation? Tiring and stressful, I'd say. Here's how I relax:

* Playing piano
* Getting a massage
* Playing video games
* Listening to classical music
* Taking a warm bath

How do you relax? Maybe you could teach me a thing or two :-).

Such a Misuse of Resources
Have been spending a lot of time tonight trying to speed the site up. We've been unacceptably, terribly, awfully slow lately. I have a long list of crappy queries to optimize. Have already fixed the two slowest culprits, so hopefully it'll have immediate effect.

I can't help but think that it's a terrible use of my time though. True, a faster site is my #1 priority now, but I should be focusing on my strenghts, which are planning and promotion.

Ah well, eventually we'll get back to the point where I can just focus on that. We can't really grow until then.

T-Shirt - Print On Front Or Back?
Would you rather have a theO t-shirt with a big picture + "theotaku.com" text printed on the front of the shirt or the back? I'm not sure which I prefer myself...

Sweet
I was promoted at my day job...to "Supervisor." I'm easily the youngest Supervisor in the company. I might even be the youngest they've ever had. So what did I do to celebrate?

I had cereal for dinner and then passed out from 11 to 2. Hm...I have to stop sleeping at odd hours.

   Best Place You've Travelled
So this summer will be the first summer in years where I'm both single and where all my friends are working. These two factors combined means that if I go someplace for my summer vacation, I'll most likely have to go alone.

So in racking my brain, I have a question: Where's the best place you've ever travelled to and why?

My New Favorite Number
...The 500th copy of Art of Otaku just sold through...

It took about six months, not too shabby :-).

This Will Be Interesting...
Wallpapers and eCards are now storing tags - it's only been a day and both have over 200 entries. It'll only be a matter of time before they have clouds and tag pages of their own. (I used some code from Maggie to make tag implementation a bit more elegant. Her first project!)

Also, I'm wearing a prototype of our upcoming THEOTAKU.COM t-shirt. While this "will do" for my own personal use, I'm not thrilled about the quality, so I'll try other companies before printing a bunch to distribute, for contests, etc.

The excellent artwork on it is by Jennifer (snow fox).

On Thin Ice...
So I found out that neither of the winners of our Samurai 7 contest actually received their prizes. Incredible, considering the email exchange I had with my rep almost two months ago:

(I added the bold for emphasis)

Adam:
"Here are the two contest winners. You should send each winner a copy of Samurai 7 Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. Please confirm that you will do this."

Rep:
"Of course. Ordering the prizing now. Thanks!"

It really shines poorly on us when we host a contest and neither winner receives their prize. Even if both winners weren't overly concerned, it harms our reputation and makes me feel personally betrayed. I sent two follow-up emails to the rep again today. I'll also try to call if I don't hear from him this coming week. This is just unacceptable.

Also: I'm never annoyed about feedback, hehe. It's my style to rush things and then evolve them. Also can totally understand the title issue...I'm trying to get a new title at my day job. (*crossing fingers*)
