In English
I wrote in German, but I am actually very much Asian. It’s confusing, I know, but it’s because I took German in school and came to know it very well. I don’t actually live in Munich (I just wonder how many of you imagined me as an Aryan youth). I live in that sorrowful Midwest (South Dakota). A boy told me that once. I don’t see what’s so sorrowful about it. It’s more like the uneventful Midwest, you know?

What is still remaining true is that my name really is Paula (My mother liked that name), and that I am a very cool person. You will soon find that out, I’m sure.

Yesterday, Emmett took me home. I didn’t think anything about it, except that I didn’t want to ride the bus. It was raining. Emmett’s car was dry. The thing I don’t like about Emmett is that he tells jokes off comedy shows because he thinks it impresses me. Personally, I’d be more impressed if he told me a joke he created and not just show me he can remember what Patton Oswald said.

I don’t even know one joke by Patton Oswald, only that he is on “King of Queens”.

Emmett is this guy I’ve known for three years. He’s not too shabby, looks-wise, and is a pretty cool guy, apart from someone else’s stupid jokes. (Dane Cook is NOT funny.) He has a sort of twang in his voice (not country, not Yankee, but something), but it’s not annoying. I actually like the sound of his voice. I sound… well, Asian, I guess.

I sound like a perfect mixture between my mother and my father. My father is Nisei and my mother is Issei. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, Nisei is a person born or raised in America whose parents immigrated from Japan. Issei is a Japanese immigrant to America. So, my mother’s accent is straight up Japanese while my father’s is a little fudged, I guess. Whatever. So I guess that makes me Nisei… or half-Nisei. Either way, I’m still Asian.

Being Asian doesn’t bother me. I’m not necessarily smart (although I am AB honor roll… hmm), I don’t think I’m all that pretty (Emmett has said I was the “hot Asian”), and I don’t have a tiny little chibi giggle.

I do like anime and manga, and can’t wait until I find that perfect series to obsess over.

Jack White has one of the most attractive voices. I think IRC would agree.

Please do forgive my opening crap. I’ll be myself in English from now on.
