A tribute to cancer survivors
My mom is a breast cancer survivor. She has been for the past probably two or three years. I went down to Salt Lake City, Utah for two of her four Chemotherapy Treatments. She lost her curly brown hair and was bald for a while. (She refused to wear the itchy, hot, and uncomfortable wigs so people usually mistaken her for a guy. That never bothered her, she would laugh and correct them though.) Her hair has comeback but now it's almost a brown/blonde color. She keeps it REAL short and unlike the doctors say it hasn't come back curly but straight.
Well in Rock Springs, the neighboring town, they're having a special once a year event for cancer survivors. My mom is going to it and we're taking along my mom's friend, Mary, and my closest friend, Kelsey. What we do there is set up a camp and cancer support team in the Rock Springs football field. When there you have to walk around the feild on the track from 10:00 A.M. tomorrow to 2:00 P.M. the next day. Kelsey and I are planning to walk the whole night, (Though I know we wont last.) Since I'm my mom's sponsor I have to go to a dinner for sponsors and servivors. Our team name is "The Killer Bees" Since it is our goal to Kill Cancer. They made little ponchos with black and yellow stripes on it plus a stinger and antenna. Kelsey and I are refusing to wear the poncho but we say we'll wear the antenna. I hope this Walk for Cancer goes better than last year, we didn't get to stay since mom was still sick we couldn't stay the night but they had a tornado pass through there and people had to take shelter in the school Gym.
There was one lady, Fran Pits, who loved Bassett Hounds. She was a cancer survivor for a very long while and she died less than a year ago. The lady that takes care of my teeth made a bracelet for her with beads of Basset Hounds. She's going to bring it to show us. I didn't really know Fran that well but I knew she was a client of my dad's. (He's a vetrinarian, the only major one in town since there are only two.)
I'm very excited for this one and can't wait to walk. My dad is a runner so he said he's going to run the whole time. There's a lady that in the team with the lady who does my teeth. She had Ruhamatoid Arthritus (Sp?) and is going to rock (In a rocking chair) for cancer. She'll also be keeping the laps that my dad does, so let's hope my dad lears to moderate.
