Chapter one: An escape in the dark

A sleepy silence settled over the land of Saharan as night enclosed around every being in and around its borders. On top a tall, gently sloping hill stood the proud and majestic Castle of Floret. It, too, was affected by the silence of night, its people sleeping in the peaceful darkness. However, the peace would soon be broken, for a storm was brewing inside the castle, one that would devastate the royal family that slept inside its walls. The guards making their nighttime rounds were unaware of what was happening around them as the night weighed heavily on their sleepy bodies. As they made their last rounds, they heard a scream from inside.
“MY BABY!!! COME BACK WITH MY BABY!!!”
The guards jumped, and ran to lower the draw bridge to get inside. Just as the drawbridge was half way open, two figures on horse back sprang out over the gap.
“HEY COME BACK!!” one of the guards shouted as the horses on the other side with a heavy THUMP!!
On of the figures skited to a halt and stood in the stirrups, raising its hands. The person chanted in an ancient language, one of power, and then its hands began to glow a soft blue. The moat began to gurgle and steam as the person chanted, and the guards ran forward, shooting arrows at the intruders.
“SHI BINSANS TIAN!!!” the person shouted, its hands flashing with light.
The guards stopped short as the ground began to buck furiously beneath their feet, causing them to trip over themselves and fall to the churning ground. Suddenly, the moat water, which had been steaming and withering in its murky depths, exploded into the air one by one like columns of liquid fire. The guards cried out and scattered, trying to avoid the burning droplets that rained from the sky. The lone figure stood proudly on the far shore, looking on at the chaos that it had created. From the depths of its cloak hood, a small sad smile prickled at the corners of its mouth, and one tear ran smoothly down its neck.
“Good bye.” The figure whispered, looking one last time on the castle.
The figure jumped back on the horse, and it reared on its hind legs, turning and raced after their companion into the folds of night. If the figure had stayed, it would have noticed a lone figure of a young girl at one of the castle’s balcony, watching sadly as the horse and its mount sped away, a matching tear of pain dripping down her cheek.

what do you think?
