Colour

One of my movie fetishes. Colour is the one thing I look for in movies. Colour represents what, at times, words cannot grasp or explain. Even if one cannot understand the language of a film, the colour can help the viewer relate certain emotions/feelings with a certain color. Example; Red can symbolize hate, seductiveness, anger, pride, or sometimes love.

I look for the film's pallet of colors, especially if it is a foreign movie. I am an artist, so I'm impulsively compelled to awe and contimplate around a movie's pallet. Dark colours give me a sense that the director is looking to achieve a depressive, solemn, or even peaceful feature. Bright, cheerful colours (such as yellow, blue, pink, orange) give a sense of child-like emotions felt by the character.

Of course, not every movie is like this. This all depends on the director's need of accomplishing, and who the director is. Frankly, I don't think directors like George Lucas really focus on colour. This is why I love Quentin Tarantino. Especially, the Kill Bill volumes. So full and rich with vivid colors. Not to mention, the man's a freagin' genious with storyline.

Also, the Chinese tend to focus on colour. The way we perceive the Chinese cultur can be completely contrary of what it truely is; but if you watch their films, you will not be completely lost. The simplicity resides within facial expressions, music, and color.

I bought Hero yesterday and awed at the fidelity of the story and the beauty of the film's cinematography..and color, of course.

Whoa, all this talk about color makes me want to redecorate my site. Hehehe..it will be a pinky time.
