Lockdown!!!
Oh my gosh. Today at school around 9:40 they came over the announcements and told all the teachers to secure their rooms for a lockdown. We thought that, because of what happened in Virginia, that it was a practice, but Senora Lipp, my Spanish teacher, said that it wasn't. So we locked the door and turned off all the lights and sat there in the dark for almost two hours. About forty minutes into the lockdown the Principal came on and said that he had sent an email to the teachers, so Senora Lipp looked at it and told us that the situation was serious. So we sat there in the dark for about two hours, maybe a little less, and then the principal comes back on and explains that some kid came in and reported a guy wandering around the school during passing period with a handgun, and tells us that we're going to start evacuating the school cause the area is secure, they said, and go across the street to the Community Center that was there. Ok, so our school has about 1300 people in it, kids and staff, so that took forever! I was in lockdown from 9:40 to 1:05. That's a freakin' long time! We were locked in our room for so long that over half the kids had to use the bathroom, and it got so bad that we actually pushed a garbage can in the corner and held blankets up for people so they could use the bathroom. (We had tissues for tp, too.) So its feelin' kind of homey in our classroom, right? People have peed in a garbage can and it doesn't smell (since there were only a couple of people that did it), and we're pretty much just messing around. Cell phones are out, there's a card game goin, everything. So a school administrator finally comes and knocks on our door and tells us to let him in, and we line up, hands on the shoulders of the person in front of us, and we file out into the hallway.
I have never seen more police and investigative officers in my life. There were guys roamin the halls, checking the empty classrooms, and they're wearin' safety vests and helmets, and they have guns. Oh my freaking heck this suddenly got scary! So we file downstairs and out the doors, and head across the street. I swear if I had breathed any faster I would have been hyperventilating. I was so scared. So we get over there, and since ours was one of the last to evacuate, they seated us and told us what was going on.
Principal: "...At ten to one this afternoon we recieved a notice from the person who had informed us of the armed man came back in and told us that he had lied, and the report was fake. We thank you all very much for your obedience and cooperation (blah blah)... You wouldn't want to be this kid right now, let me tell you... The good news is that we don't have school for the rest of the day-" *pause for cheers-* "but the bad news is that we have to make this day up at the end of the year." *Wait for loud booing, etc* "We will now let you go by sections to leave or meet parents."
I was like, WTHeck???? This is absolutely ridiculous. And it was a freshman. How stupid. So I left school after doing absolutely nothing but sit in lockdown for almost four hours, and have to pee really bad! I hadn't gone, by the time I finally got to go, for eight hours!
So today was totally weird, and yet it was so scary to think that some guy might be wandering around ready to kill people. How sad!
So how was your day?
