Muhahahah! I have reached page 40 on my story! ...enjoy
I walked into the colonel’s office a few weeks later after I was able to walk. I opened his door and peered inside no one but Roy was in the room. I sighed and walked inside. “Colonel.” I looked at him with a flat smile, “Havoc has decided that-“
“That you shouldn’t go off to war I know. He’s told me. I agree with him.”
I scowled at him. “I beg you to reconsider!” He looked at me in shock.
“Why?” Roy asked confused.
“Why would I join the military if I’m not going to fight?”
“Havoc will kill me if I let you go.”
“Well then lets not let him know! I mean I could disguise myself to look like a guy and he’d never know!”
“How do you plan to do that?”
“With your help!”
“Well first off we need to make your hair appear shorter. Now then we have two options first we can cut it second we can tie it up and put it in a hat.”
I looked at him blankly, “Lets go with option two.”
“Secondly you’re going to need to scowl a lot. Other wise he’ll know it’s you. I suggest that you think off something that makes you angry.”
I nodded, “Okay what else.”
He pointed to my chest, “Good idea.” I told him, “Say when is this war any way?”
“Tomorrow.”
I looked at him shocked, “Tomorrow? Oh crap! I got to get ready then! Thanks colonel!” I sped out the door into the hall.
I ran to the bakery where I could figure out how I should do everything Roy said. I tied my hair up into a ponytail and stuck it in a hat that I got when I joined the military. So far I looked like a boy from the neck up. I tied some gauze around my chest to make it flat. I looked at my arm I had to come up with an alibi for it. A train wreck, I thought to myself, “Ya it will fool him.”
I put on a pair of sunglasses and looked in the mirror, I could hardly breathe which would become a problem if I were running away from something. Over all though I looked like a guy I smiled in the mirror. “I’ll do it!!”
I went to sleep confident of what I was doing; I stopped dead in my tracks. How was I going to say goodbye to him and get on the train at the same time? I stood there for a few seconds I already flattened my chest and all I would need to do is put my hair up and put my glasses on. I shrugged my shoulders and continued to walk to the station.
I waited for Havoc there for a while I wore my hat to make it seem casual. I saw Havoc come into the station I smiled and ran to him. I hugged him. “I’ll miss you Havoc.” I looked up at him.
“I miss you too Aki.”
I kissed him and he got on the train I waved to him and pretended to whip a tear away. I left his sight and turned into a guy. I got on the train and looked for my seat to my surprise I sat in the seat across from Havoc. I sat down he looked over at me. “Have I met you somewhere before?”
I looked at him, “No that couldn’t be I never seen you before in my life!” I felt nervous. I kept the scowl on my face.
“Your right it’s just that you remind me of some one. But I can’t tell whom. That’s it you remind me of my girlfriend!”
“Your girlfriend?”
“Ya I don’t know why but you do.”
“Okay. I’ll take that as a compliment.”
“Any way I’m Jean Havoc nice to meet you!”
“I’m-“ I didn’t have a name yet so I said the first thing that came to my mind, “Jayne Russell.”
“That’s funny those are the names of Aki’s parents.”
I looked at him astonished I didn’t know he knew that. I never told anyone my parent’s names. “Is that so?”
“Ya,”
“So you really must like this girl.”
“Ya I do she’s the best thing that could happen to me too! She’s got an attitude though, in fact this one time she called the colonel a-“
“Cocky womanizing self-centered ass.” I whispered to myself.
“Ya how did you know?”
“I was walking past the colonel’s office at the time.”
He looked at me I didn’t dare look at him. We talked till we got to our base. I stepped outside and looked around we were in a desert outside a city we were briefed on what was going on and we went to our tents. I walked along till I found mine I went inside four other people were in there Breda, Farman, Furey, and Havoc. “Hey it’s you again!” Havoc called to me.
I waved at him. “These are my friends, that’s Breda, that’s Farman, and that’s Furey.” He pointed to each one as he called of there names.
“Hi I’m Jayne Russell nice to met ya!” I smiled at them.
I looked at them all happily I was nervous if Havoc found out he would never trust me again. We all talked till lights out. I sat in bed and looked at the ceiling. I fell asleep at what felt like 1 am.
I woke up to an alarm I sat up and rubbed my eyes. I stood up and got ready. I looked at Havoc and the others they still weren’t ready yet. I sighed and pinched the area between my eyes. Havoc looked depressed, “What’s wrong with you?”
“I had the worst dream ever last night.” He said sleepily.
“What about?” Breda asked him.
“It was about Roy stealing my girlfriend.”
We all started laughing. “Oh come on she wouldn’t leave you!” Farman patted his shoulder.
I smiled at him, “Ya I bet she’s thinking of you right now.”
“How do you figure?”
“It’s a hunch really.”
He looked at me with enthusiasm. I looked at the wall. I didn’t want to see my eyes. “Hey you have an auto mail arm.” Havoc stated.
I grabbed my arm; “It was a train wreck a few years ago.”
I walked out of the tent and into the mess hall I. Havoc and the others sat with me I smiled I was glad they enjoyed my company. We talked for hours at a time till we got an alarm that we were being attacked I stood up and grabbed my gun. I ran out to where the trucks were Havoc and I we’re on the same squad I wasn’t sure about the others.
We were taken to a secluded area we walked from there. I didn’t talk much at all I had my mind focused on protecting Havoc. Havoc was thinking about me I could tell by the look on his face. “Are you thinking about her?” I asked him.
“Ya how could I not.” He smiled.
“Don’t let her clutter your mind she, if you do you’ll be unfocused and more likely to die. And you know what would happen to her if you die.” As I said that my heart pained me if he dies I would never be able to live with myself.
“I see your thinking about some one.” He told me.
I laughed, “Ya my friends. They’re all I have left.”
He nodded I looked ahead I new some one was going to get hurt. We got into the city I looked around nothing but bodies. I heard gunfire I looked to the top of the buildings. A man with a gun stood there aiming at me I jumped between two alleyways and got up onto the roof were he stood. I shot him in the head his body hit the roof. I jumped off and looked at them. “Wow.” Havoc looked at me.
“What? I’ve been able to do that for years!” I walked away.
A few hours later we were trapped behind a building there was a line of men firing at us. I looked at them and fired Havoc stood up. “Good shot! Right in the head!”
“Thanks” I smiled.
I stood up and ran out in the middle of the cross fire I shot at every one I hit three and fell to the ground I pretended to be dead some men walked up to me. I shot him in the head. I stood up and shot them all. I looked at Havoc. I smiled, “Come on!”
That night we went back to our tents Havoc was talking to the colonel. Me and Breda started talking, we started fighting, “GIRLY MAN!”
“I am not!”
“Ya you are you look like a girl!”
“Shut up!”
“Quite it you two!” Furey got between us he pushed us apart.
Furey had his hand on my chest. I looked at him embarrassed, “You’re a G-girl?”
I slapped him, “Are you done squeezing me yet?” I yelled.
“Wait you’re a girl?” Breda looked at me funny.
I sighed I took off my hat and my glasses. “AKI!” Breda freaked.
“Yes it’s me. But listen you can’t tell Havoc I’m here! Or else.” I glared at them.
“Quick put your disguise back on! He’s coming!” Farman yelled.
Havoc walked inside with his hands in his pockets. I looked at him. He looked at me; I smiled. I looked at my uniform it was soaked in blood. I moaned, “I just got this uniform!”
I sighed and fell on my bed. I was tired no doubt about that. “Your lucky you didn’t die today.” Havoc said to me.
“What do you mean?” I smiled at the ceiling.
“When you ran out into that alley way to fight off that line of people. You could’ve died.”
“Ya so?” I sat up and looked at him.
“Wow you do sound like Aki.”
Breda almost laughed, “Why do say that?” I asked him.
“Well your stubborn and a strong fighter. You look like her too.”
I smirked. I didn’t want him to know. I shot up and looked at them. “I’m going to take a walk any one want to come?”
“Ya sure.” Havoc stood up and looked at me.
“Okay then lets go.” I walked out the door. Havoc followed me.
We talked for hours just like we used to. I heard gunfire we hadn’t left camp yet so it surprised me. I looked around to see who shot at us. I couldn’t transmute my arm right now. A gun fired again. Havoc looked around to see who it was. His eyes widened, “What is it?”
“Move!” He pushed me against a wall, “Aeon!” he yelled at the silhouette.
My eyes widened I couldn’t fight her not now. “Havoc I’m so glad to find you here, any way come quietly or else!”
No way not now! I looked at her in anger.
She examined me closely not knowing that I was what she was after, “Nice girlfriend you have there!”
Havoc looked at me, “What are you talking about? Can’t you tell the difference between a boy and a girl?” he paused and walked over to me, “I mean if she weren’t a guy I wouldn’t be able to get away with this.” He put a hand on my chest.
I made a small noise that sounded like a mouse I blushed in anger. He looked at me again, “You aren’t a guy are you?” I shook my head.
“See what did I tell you?” Aeon smiled cheerfully.
“So you want to fight then?” I turned to her I took off my hat and glasses.
Havoc’s jaw dropped. I transmuted my arm and glared at her. Havoc grabbed my arm and leaned by my ear, “I’ll distract her you get the colonel.” He whispered in my ear.
I looked at him confused. I nodded even though I didn’t want to go. I turned and ran for the main tent. I peered inside, the colonel sat there along with some other alchemists. I walked inside, Roy looked at me I had a panicked look on my face, “Colonel we’re being attacked. I have reason to believe that she’s on the enemy’s side.”
He stood up, “How many are there?”
“Just one sir.”
He looked at me blankly, “Just one? Well can’t you take care her?”
“Don’t under estimate her colonel she almost killed before.”
“I see well lets catch her before she does it again!” he put a coat on and ran out the opening of the tent. I followed him.
“She’s that way colonel!” I pointed out the direction.
A few minutes later we got to her and Havoc. Havoc was hunched over holding his side. Aeon stood there holding a small blade she was laughing, “How disappointing and I was hoping to kill him just to see the look on your face Aki.”
I glared at her. I stood up and transmuted my fingers into small blades I turned to her. I ran up to her and scratched her face blood seeped out of the wound slowly. She touched it and looked at her hand, “So what you have claws? Two can play at this game!” She lunged at me with her blade it missed me.
I transmuted my hand again making the razors even longer. I smirked and opened my hand. I slashed her stomach. She looked down at the opening I only got her shirt. “Your depth perception is lacking Aki.” She laughed pitifully.
I lunged at her again. She grabbed my wrist and hit me against the ground I landed with a hard thud. She stepped on my chest with one foot and leaned down with the blade in the air. “Say ‘Good bye’ to this world Aki.”
Roy snapped his fingers Aeon jumped out of the way. I sat up and rubbed my head, “Geez what took ya?”
“I could’ve let you die.” He glared at me.
I scratched my chin and laughed, “I mean thanks for the help.”
“No problem.” He walked away.
I looked around Aeon was gone. I got up and looked at Havoc. I walked over and put my hand on his back, “Are you okay?” my voice was full of concern and sadness. He nodded slowly. “That’s good to hear.” I started to cry.
Havoc looked at me. He stood up straight and grabbed my shoulder. I looked up at him. I hugged him, “I’m sorry about this.”
He lifted my chin, “About what? You have nothing to be sorry about.” He smiled at me kindly.
I smiled too. I kissed him and pulled away. “Well we better get your wound wrapped up.” I looked at my uniform it was covered in his blood.
We walked into the medical tent the nurse looked at us like we were crazy. I smiled. Havoc was half asleep. Havoc sat down on a bed, I stood next to him. He pulled me close to him. I hugged him I didn’t let go. I didn’t want to I wanted to stay with him forever. I closed my eyes and sat there.
We walked back to the tent together, but before we went in I stopped him, “Havoc I,” I stopped I couldn’t let something like this happen again, “I’m sorry but I-“
Havoc stopped me. He grabbed my arm my eyes widened, “God your hands are cold!” I exclaimed.
“Well your auto mail is no better!” Havoc crossed his arms and looked at me.
“Is that so?” I put my arm on his stomach.
“Ahi!!! That’s cold!” He yelled.
I stared at him. Kain looked at us through the door, “What are you guys doing?” he asked us.
“Nothing Havoc’s being stupid,” I paused, “Again.”
Breda laughed, “I am not acting stupid!” Havoc yelled.
“Ya sure you are.” I replied.
“I’m not! Aren’t I guys?” Havoc turned to Kain.
“No comment here.” He said back disappearing inside the tent.
I walked inside not caring much for what just happened. I sat on my bed and waited for something to happen. “Aki what happened to you?” Breda asked me.
“What are you talking about Breda I’m fine.” I sighed.
“No really your uniform is burnt.” He pointed out a brown tattered spot on my uniform.
“It must have been when Roy was trying to kill Aeon.” I went back to what I was doing.
Havoc walked over and looked at it, “Well are you okay then?” he asked me.
“Yes I’m fine geez.”
“How about if I do this.” He poked my side. I cringed in pain and grabbed the spot, “Ah ha! So your not okay!” he stated triumphantly.
“Yes okay fine you win! I’m not okay I’m in pain! Geez!” I fell over onto my back and stared at the ceiling.
I looked at Havoc. I scowled he sat down next to me. Havoc looked at me, “You’re getting injured way to much! You need to be less reckless.”
I sat up and leaned in I stared into his eyes, “Are you kidding asking me to be less reckless is like asking you to stop smoking! Impossible!” I went onto my back again.
He leaned over me, “I can quit smoking.”
I laughed, “Ya right! Like that’ll happen!” I sat up again, “I’d like to see you try.”
“Okay then! If you lose you’ll have to wear a miniskirt to work for a month!” He pointed to me.
“If you lose you’ll have to,” I paused, I walked over to Kain and the others, “What is the worst thing we can do to him?” I whispered.
“I don’t know make quit smoking all together.” Kain suggested.
“For all that is holy please lose!” Breda begged.
“No!” I yelled, I turned to Havoc, “Okay if you lose you’ll have to quit smoking all together! We have to do this for a whole month! This bet starts tomorrow!”
“Ha I’ll win no matter what!” Havoc laughed.
I glared at him, “Feh.” I looked in the other direction.
Breda walked over to Havoc and started whispering in his ear. “What no way! She’s my girlfriend remember?” he yelled at Breda.
“Oh come on.” He pleaded.
“No.” Havoc said sternly.
“Your no fun.”
I looked at Havoc, “What did he want?”
He looked at me, “He wanted to extend the time of you wearing a miniskirt for a year instead of a month.” He sighed.
I walked over to Breda and hit him in the head, “Pervert.”
I sat next to Havoc. He looked at me, “I’m so going to win!”
“Ya right.” I pushed him off my bed.
--------------------------------------------------*-------------------------------------------------------
A few weeks later we were invaded again. I was being stupid and got in the line of fire. I was shot in the arm and leg. I lost the bet I sobbed. “See told you I’d win.” Havoc said happily. “Sweet now I can smoke!” He stuck a cigarette in his mouth and lit it. “Thank god that’s over with.”
I looked at him, “I hate you.”
“No you don’t.” Havoc smiled.
I glared at him. “Yes, I do.”
He hugged me, “Nah you love me.”
“That maybe so.” I paused, “But for now I hate you.”
“You’ll get over it!” He kissed my cheek.
“Ya or so you hope.” I looked at him again and sighed.
Havoc looked at me. “I’m going to get the miniskirt from Roy.”
I sighed. He left the room I looked at the ceiling with glossy eyes, “What’s wrong Aki?” Kain asked me.
“I can’t believe I lost.” I looked at him; “I really wanted him to quite smoking too. I really care for him.”
It was a few minutes before Havoc got back. He handed me a miniskirt. I looked at it, “I can’t believe I lost to you.” I sighed.
“Ya well get over it.” He sat next to me.
“Go to hell.” I whispered.
He looked at me. He hit my back. I coughed into my hand pinched the area between my eyes, “I still hate you.”
“No you don’t admit it.” Havoc put a hand on my shoulder and smiled.
I glared at him, “I hate you.”
He hugged me, “Nah you love me.”
I glared at him still, “How can you be so sure?”
“I know you well enough to know when you hate me or not.” Havoc put his cheek against mine.
“I forget why am I dating you again?” I looked at him through the corner of my eye.
“Cause you love me.” He smiled happily.
“You keep telling yourself that.” I patted his head.
He pulled away and looked at me. Hair covered my left eye. I pushed behind my ear. “I can’t hate you forever!” I grinned. I put him in a headlock.
--------------------------------------------------------*--------------------------------------------------
Years past by, injures healed. Friends were made and friends were lost. Relationships grew stronger with time. The war finally ended we rejoiced at our freedom from war. We all got on the train home. We sat next to each other and shared what we can’t wait to get home to, “I can’t wait to see my friends again it seems like forever!” I stretched my arms into the air.
“Well I would say I can’t wait to get home to you but your already here.” Havoc yawned.
“Hey Havoc I think you lost weight.” I looked at his stomach.
“You think so?” He asked me.
“Ya! I really think you have.” I poked his stomach.
“Well I know you have.” He put his hands behind his head.
I poked him in the stomach again. Kain stared at us like we were crazy. I sat up straight in my seat and looked out the window. I smiled I could tell that we were getting close to home. “Hey you have to wear a mini skirt when we get back home!” Havoc reminded me.
“I was hoping you’d forget that!” I yelled.
“Nope! How could I?” Havoc grinned.
We arrived at the station an hour or so later. I stepped out and waited for Havoc. He stepped out finally almost falling off the stairs of the train. I laughed at him.
We walked out the sky was cloudy and black. “We better hurry I think it will rain soon.” I suggested.
“Ya right I doubt it.” Havoc stated.
A few minutes later it began to pour. “Told you.” I glared at him.
“Shut up.” He sighed.
We walked through five minutes of rain before I got smart and used my jacket as an umbrella. My hair was already drenched though. Havoc looked at me and looked at the sky. I laughed, “Your going to get sick.”
“Ya sure I am.” He grinned.
I got to my store and opened my door. “Aki!” Zoë yelled at me I jumped back, “Your back! I’m so happy!” She smiled. She was the co-manager of the store and was Mercy’s only sister.
“I thought you died!” Mercy hugged me.
“Nope!” I laughed.
Nicollette glared at me, “So how many?”
“How many what?” I asked her.
“How many people did you kill?”
“It doesn’t matter. I’m serving the military. It’s something I must do.”
She walked up to me her blonde hair fell in front of face. “It matters to us.”
“I’m not sure.”
“That’s not good enough!” She grabbed my shirt and pulled me close to her, “How many damn it?” she yelled.
“Fifty or more.” I said in a silent whisper.
She punched me. “Damn you! Do you have no heart? Those were lives you took! No one disservices to die by gun point or by blade!”
“I didn’t use either, I used alchemy.” I glared at her.
She punched me again. “Why don’t you understand that alchemy shouldn’t be used as a weapon? It’s a science Aki! A science! Not meant to be used for murder!”
“That’s Equivalent exchange. I saved lives and others died.” I turned my head away.
She let go my shirt and walked away. I sighed and smiled at Mercy she grinned back. Zoë walked up to happily and grinned from ear to ear, “Don’t mind me saying so but, I’m glad your back I couldn’t stand running this place any longer. They wouldn’t stop arguing! It was driving me insane!” She looked at Nicollette.
“It’s a short trip.” Mercy laughed.
I laughed with her. Zoë always had a sense of humor but not when it came to her. “That’s not funny Mercy.” Zoë glared at her.
Mercy looked at her with big eyes, “I love you big sister.” She remarked innocently.
I looked at Zoë she was confused by the way her eyebrow curved, “That’s more like it. After all I am your last relative that’s not our Aunt Stella.” She shuttered at the name, their Aunt Stella was a chain-smoking, mustached, old hag that lived in a drafty cottage.
“Don’t ever leave me! I’ll,” she paused, “Do something to make you regret it! I swear I will!”
Zoë laughed, “They only thing you could do to make regret leaving you is if you gave up living.” She smiled kindly. She cared for her sister more then she did herself.
I yawned, “Man I’m tired! I think I’m going to sleep for couple of days.” I headed upstairs into my room. I rested my head on a pillow and drifted off to sleep.
“Aki!” a familiar voice called to me. I opened my eyes slowly but was not in room, I sat up and examined the world around me. I was in a field a bright beautiful sun was out and birds were chirping. I felt warmth on my both of my arms I looked at my left arm it was back to normal. “Aki! Over here Aki!” the voice called to again.
I stood up and looked behind me, Justice was waving and smiling. I smiled; I tried to yell out his name. Nothing but a small wisp of air came out. I ran towards him the further I ran the further away he got. They sky became cloudy and air reeked of blood. Justin began to fade away. I stopped I looked at my arm that was slowly disappearing blood rushed out.
I shot up and looked around, “Stupid dreams. Always doing crap to peoples heads.” I got up and walked to my mirror and glared at my reflection. “Stupid Justin leaving me behind like that.” I sighed, “Stupid me not forgetting crap like that.” I smiled. I watched it replay in my head, “it’s not fare damn it. Why you of all people?” I asked myself wiping away a tear. Someone knocked on my door, “Come in.”
“Aki come downstairs we have something for you.” Zoë grinned.
“I’ll be down in a second.” I stood up straight. Zoë nodded and shut the door.
I took a deep breath and headed downstairs. It was dark I could barely see my feet. A light went on, “Happy Birthday!” everyone cheered.
“Oh man I forgot today was my birthday!” I scratched my head feeling stupid.
All my friends were there Ed, Al, Havoc even Roy which scared me a bit. “Ya I forgot it was your birthday Aki so sorry for punching you like that.” Nicollette laughed.
I smiled at her. I slid down on the rail. The party started and lasted about four hours or so, because we lost track. Everyone headed home except Zoë and I headed up stairs and rested my hand on the ledge of my window. The moon cascaded overhead and left the room brightly lit. I sighed at its beauty. I smiled and opened the window. I poked my head out and pulled my leg on the ledge. I was standing on the edge of the window now I turned around and climbed onto the roof of the bakery. I gazed at the stars finding constellations and patterns. I sat on the cold slanted roof and gazed at the moon.
Before I became a dog of the military I sat on the roof when I was sad or angry at something. The door of the bakery swung open I didn’t pay much attention to it though. “Aki? What are you doing up there?” Zoë asked me almost shouting.
I looked at her, “There’s something on my mind is all.” I looked up again.
“Hold on I’ll be up in a minute.” She laughed. She was a great problem solver.
I sat on the roof waiting for her to come up. She poked her head out of my window and climbed up. She stood over me, “Your rooms is a mess.” She giggled and sat next to me, “So what’s wrong?”
“It’s Justin.” I sighed.
Her smile flattened in a snap, “Go on.”
“I don’t know why but I think I still-“ I stopped myself.
“You still love him don’t you?”
“No how could I? He left me I told him how I felt and he felt the same way. But he still left me! He’s a jerk!”
“That ring was from him wasn’t it?” I nodded, “what happened to it?”
“I threw it away,” I looked away.
She laughed, “Your so stupid sometimes.”
“What was that?” I glared at her.
“You need to cherish what you have left of the dead.”
