Megan's Lab Adventures
Current Mood: ....
Listening To When You Cry - Vertical Horizon
Time: 10:09 PM

As I'm sure you can guess, I had my astronomy lab tonight. I have it every Thursday, from 8-10 PM, and it's a real pain in the ass to go back to class that late at night. I don't like it, and it doesn't really help that some of the stuff is just weird. Our TA doesn't know what he's doing. That, or he just doesn't care, heh. I've been doing good, though, so that's all that matters.

But anyway. Tonight, we had a bit of a field trip to Silver Lake. This is the lake that I went to during the first semester and had a bonfire at; the SoCo concert weekend. Out there, it's pitch black and the sky is completely lit up with stars. Very cool stuff.

Except, me and my lab partner McCrae got there an hour late, because the directions were bad and everything was dark and confusing. There's a spot where the road ends and it's a dirt road the rest of the way down. Well, we were apparently supposed to make a sharp left at that point, but because the paper we had was fuzzy with that, we kept driving. And that dirt road was crazy. So many bumps. Almost hit a possum. I think that might be the first time I've ever seen a live one. And I must also point out that I now understand why they all end up as roadkill - you do not walk towards fast moving bright lights, buddy. That's bad.

So anyway, we went all the way down that dirt road until it turned into pavement again, which was obviously not supposed to happen. So we turned and went all the way back, and finally went down the right road and came upon the parking lot where everybody else was. At 8:55-ish. Just a tad bit late.

By this time, McCrae desperately needed to use the bathroom, and as you can imagine, there wasn't one readily available out in the middle of nowhere. So, while I rummaged through her car for jackets (cause it was cold), she declared that it was "time to get back to nature" and disappeared for a couple minutes behind some trees.

Eventually, we got to the telescopes, wandered around mindlessly, copied down some stuff, looked at some planets and a spiral galaxy (I saw Saturn and her rings, which was pretty cool), before George (the TA, who is Greek, by the way) told us that we could finish up the lab and bring it to him sometime next week, before our next class. So basically, I'm just going to BS my way through the rest of it. Sounds good to me.

I would love to tell you all about my splendid shopping adventures today (especially that stupid, stupid whore who wouldn't let me buy my skirt), but I've got a terrible headache and an eight o'clock math class in the morning that I must get sleep for, so this is ciao for now.

Someone holds me, safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory
