For those of you who took the quiz last week, you found out that my screen name actually stands for something. Of course, if you've downloaded any of my wallpapers, you'd already know this. Until now, I've never told you what R2K stands for. It's actually the name of my ongoing music project: Renaissance 2000. There you have it! Personal insight and a quiz freebie. Also, yesterday's song was not an original. It is actually by Newsong and they play it at the Easter pageant every year, which went very well by the way. But enough of this. I know what you're all REALLY here for. Everybody sing!

The boy's back in town!
The boy's back in town!

(ahh. good old table code.)

Since Then

Silence.......

There was nothing but silence as I sat in the middle of the dojo. “Breathe in..... breathe out..... breathe in..... breathe out.” I opened my eyes and tranquilly gazed at the cinder blocks I had set up on the other side of the room. I slowly raised my right arm and focused all my attention on the middle block. I closed my eyes and visualized energy flowing from all points of my body to my fingertips and out. I concentrated harder and my brow began to furrow. I could almost feel the block in my hands. “Almost.....” In one final surge of energy, I clenched my fist as if I were crushing an egg. I looked...... nothing had moved. I stood up as I let out a heavy sigh. “Maybe telekinesis is too big a leap.” Ever since I cracked the secret of my powers, I’d been spending most of my free time in meditation hoping to develop and further understand them. “Let’s try the run.” I backed up and started stretching as if I were getting ready for the 100 meter dash. Then I crouched down in the same fashion. “I can do this. Do doubts. I can do this....... GO!” I took off at full speed running straight towards the wall. “No doubts. No doubts. No doubts.” Then a shrill cry broke my concentration. “DADDY!” I crashed into the wall, which was not my intention by the way. “OWW! GAH, FRAK IT!” I grabbed my nose and adjusted my glasses. Then I heard the door slide open behind me. I quickly regained my composure and turned around to see a small figure standing in the doorway. “What are you doing, daddy?”
“Kida-chan. I was just practicing.”
“Dai jobu desu ka? Your face is all red.”
“Hai. Dai jobu desu. What are you doing?” She ran towards me and hugged my leg. “I was looking for my daddy,” she said with a big smile. I picked her up and squeezed her tight. “Well, you found me. How’s my little kitten, today?”

Though it had only been a couple months since she was born, Kida looked and acted like she was five years old. While she was being created, Washu injected her with special hormones that would accelerate her growth. That way, Washu would’ve been able to study her development at various stages of her life more easily. How else could she be born in only a few weeks? I, of course, had a fit when I found this out. She’s over 50,000 years old! What’s another 15?! But, what’s done is done, I suppose. It did have its perks. We had to deal with diapers for only three weeks. Kida was certainly developing into her own person. Not only was she looking more and more like her mother every day, she was starting to act like her too. Kida was mischievous, very stubborn, and a handful overall. But, like any little girl, she was also very sweet and glowed with infantile curiosity and innocence. Not to mention kawaii as a button. Her eyes were hazel/brown just like mine, but her hair was more of a chocolate brown; slightly darker than mine but had the same feel and qualities of Aisha’s. “Justin!” Speak of the devil! Aisha’s voice called from downstairs. “Phone!” I gently set Kida back down. “OK! I got it!”

I ran to my room and picked up the phone. The first words I heard on the other line were, “How’s it going, ‘family guy’?” I could recognize that voice anywhere. “Makoto! Konnichiwa! O-genki desu ka?”
“Genki desu. How’s things over there?”
“Fine. Just fine.”
“That’s good. Listen, I’ve got some good news.”
“Hit me.”
“The restaurant’s all ready and I’ll be hiring some staff pretty soon.”
“That’s great!”
“So, Justin-kun, I was wondering....” There was silence for a beat. She gave me some time to figure out what she was trying to say. “What? You want me to come work for you.... again?”
“C’mon. It’ll be just like the old days.”
“Yeah. That’s why I’m thinking about turning down your offer.”
“Well, not exactly like the old days.” We both shared a laugh as we were reminded of old squabbles that, of course, were water under the bridge or over dam or where-ever we wanted it. Makoto continued, “Actually, I was thinking about an assistant manager.” I was caught off guard by this remark. At first I didn’t know whether she was being serious or not. “You’re kidding, right?” I asked. “I’m totally serious,” she replied. “Since I’m going to be busy in the kitchen most of the time, I need somebody to watch over everything else. You’d be the host, basically; totally in charge and second only to me.” This was such a shock coming from Makoto. I was deeply flattered by her offer, but it just didn’t sound like my thing. Plus, I didn’t really need a job considering I had a horde of gold in another dimension. I tried not to stumble over my words as I declined her offer. “Makoto, I’m very honored that you would consider me for that kind of position, but..... I couldn’t. What with everything going on over here. Taking care of Kida-chan and planning the...” Makoto interrupted, but she sounded very calm and almost sympathetic. “Say no more. I completely understand. So, how is everyone over there? Kida-chan especially.”
“Couldn’t be better. I’m living with two feline angels!”
“And how’s Ozz doing?”
“Just fine. He and Kida have developed quite a bond.” Ozz and Kida had become like adopted siblings. They played together all the time. Even though Ozz and I had an eternal link, he seemed to follow Kida where-ever she went. He even stopped sleeping in my room and went to hers. It’s almost as if he felt obligated to watch over her: like a family guardian. And he wanted to give Aisha and I our privacy. Things were getting a little more intimate. “Well, I gotta go, Justin-kun. Talk to you later!”
“Bye, Makoto. Good luck in your staff.... hiring........ thing.”
“Thanks. I’ll be sure and invite you to the grand opening. Mata ne!”
“Ja ne!”
