Chapter One
The Maiden’s Story
There once was a beautiful woman, Elizabeth, from the country of England, a tropical island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. She was not a princess, nor a queen, nothing more than a simple woman who filled her duties as a housekeeper, and this was not what made her heart full of bliss. Everyday, she would take her jug and make her way down to Crystal Waterfall, where she would gather water for the family she kept. And, as she walked, she would sing the song that she had sung for the few years when she had been employed at this home; her voice would float above the tree tops so that the God’s themselves could hear her soothing voice of sorrow.
“May the God’s hear my sorrowful words, care they may and help they won’t. Take me away from here I pray, send my prince to save me, cast my problems away for another day.”
This is what she sang; yet everyday was the same, until Henry came, that one fateful day. He was hiding from the officers in the bushes when he heard this mourning song coming from the waterfall. He slowly poked his head out of the bush to see the most wonderful being he had ever seen; she was glowing a golden glow that not even the Goddess, Venus could not match. Compared to her, roses were wilting, the sun was a dim candle, and the stars were nothing more than small specks of bright dust.
Henry watched her as she gathered water, then she started to walk back, he couldn’t stand to see her go, so he jumped at the opportunity to greet her with his charm. As she walked by, he leaped out of the bush; of course, this startled her and she dropped her jug and it smashed into what seemed a million pieces. Elizabeth was absolutely appalled at him.
“Hello there pretty young woman, my name is Henry, what’s yours?”
“You fool!! Can you not see what you have done?! I will surely be punished for this, and I must thank you.”
“Oh, no problem, here let me help you pick up the pieces,”
“Thank you I suppose, even though this is your fault,”
“Well, here you go, the last piece, sorry but I just saw you, and you’re so…beautiful…”
“Oh, th-thank you, where were you? I didn’t see you,”
“I was…hiding in the bushes, right over there.”
“Oh, I see, are you homeless?”
“No! Of course not, I was…hiding from the police,”
“Ah, umm…I think I should I be going now, it was nice meeting you…Kamahi?”
“Yes, that’s my name, maybe I’ll see you another time?”
“Maybe, I suppose we never know!” she said giggling a little and blushing fiercely, but so was he.
The next day, Elizabeth came back to the waterfall and looked desperately around for Henry, but she couldn’t see him, she sighed with grief and began to sing her song. Then, once again, out of the bushes popped out Henry.
“Hello love, how are you this afternoon?” he said in a cheerful voice.
She giggled and laughed with delight when she saw him. This daily meeting went on for another year, and soon he grew to live there simply, so she could call on him day or night. He built himself a small shack and everything was perfect bliss, until one day, Elizabeth came sobbing, which truly made Henry want to sob as well.
“What’s wrong Elizabeth? Please don’t cry, I hate to see you cry…”
She grabbed Henry and refused to let go from her tight grasp around his waist.
“The most terrible thing has happened Henry, M’Lord, William has asked me to marry him!”
“Well, darling! That’s quite a simple thing to solve, no use crying, just say no!”
“I can’t! With all of his wives, he gave this option, marry him or be beheaded!”
“That’s monstrous! He can’t possibly do that, can he?”
“Henry, please, don’t leave me, I love you! But I don’t want to die! I want to live, to be with you!!” she fell to her knees and sobbed uncontrollably. “Oh God’s! If you have ever heard my prayers, please hear this one!” she screamed at the sky. “Don’t let him take me! Oh God!! Please, don’t let him take me!!!” rain came pouring out of the sky and hid her tears. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck her hard on the chest and she went tumbling down the small hill.
“Elizabeth! NO!!!” Henry screamed at her lifeless body.
He ran after her body and when she finally stopped, he thought she was dead. He raced to her and cried over her without planning to stop. But she wasn’t dead! She lifted her head slowly and grinned.
“Oh Elizabeth! I thank the God’s that you are alive! Why are you smiling? Please don’t leave me, please…” and with that he sobbed again.
“Ah Henry, I’m not dying, I had a vision! The God’s, themselves, they spoke to me! They said not to worry, that we would be together, not in death, but in life!! Henry, I must go home, but I’ll come back tomorrow, bring all of your things and-“
“Elizabeth, what are you talking about?”
“Please, just let me speak Henry! Bring your things, and we’ll, we’ll…run away together!!! I know it sounds crazy, but trust me, the God’s told me that this was the right thing to do! I love you, don’t you love me?”
“Yes, but your lord will surely kill me, will he not?”
“Only if he finds us, but he won’t, he’ll give up after a while. Just come tomorrow, I plead.”
“Alright, but only for you, you know that?”
“Yes, I thank you my love, I will see you tomorrow, good-night…”
“Good-night my love, I shall see you when the morning breaks…”
Henry laid and thought of what they would do together, on their own, it was going to be heaven on earth, and he was going to enjoy being on adventures with his true love.
The morning came and went, the afternoon rolled in and he still sat and waited. He began to become worried when Elizabeth hadn’t showed up for the whole morning, so he decided to go and get her, he knew it wasn’t wise but he had to do it. He began to run towards her home with a pace not even a horse could beat. He finally showed up at the gates of her home when he saw there a wedding taking place, and he saw one thing that broke his heart, Elizabeth. He had begun to turn away, when she slightly turned her head, and he could see plump tears rolling down her face. Then he knew she didn’t want this just as much as he didn’t.
“Elizabeth!!!” he shouted over the top of the wedding guests heads.
“Henry!” she screamed right back at him with joy. “I told you he’d come for me!” she said directly at Lord William. “You’re a fat, ugly, vicious old man! And nobody in their right mind would want to marry you, you’re scum!”
This angered the lord, and he said right at her: “Yes, I am, and you’re a trashy little slut and you will be my bride!” he grabbed her by the waist and stormed off into the castle, up the stairs to his room. All the way, Elizabeth screamed while Henry attempted to fight off the dozen guards piled on top of him.
“Elizabeth, don’t worry, I’ll save you!”
“Oh no you won’t you worthless piece of garbage!” shouted the lord.
The lord was laughing all the way up the stairs, knowing exactly what would happen. The stupid peasant by would try to fight off all of his guards, and if he succeeded, the lord would kill him with his bare hands. Something like this had happened with all of his wives, then, after they saw their dead lovers, they would finally give into the lord, not loving him, but he would at least get what he wanted, and that was nothing more than a woman. Each woman would only last so many years though, like a cheap toy you bought for a three-year old. Eventually, they would kill them selves, and he would seek another wife.
They reached the room and Elizabeth saw the large bed in the center of the room, and she screamed even louder.
“Oh no, I don’t think so, I’ve had my keen little eye on you for some time, and I always get what I want!” and he laughed a wicked laugh.
He threw her on the bed and tied her head so that she couldn’t scream anymore. He knew what he wanted, and he suspected that he was going to get it, but, out of the blue, Henry came bursting through the door.
“Don’t even think about it, you perverted little swine!”
“Think about what?” he said sarcastically.
Henry drew a sword out of a sheath and let it’s threatening glow say what he meant to do if he laid a finger on Elizabeth again. The lord simply laughed at him and his pitiful ness. He began to start what he had intended, but Henry grew angrier and simply plunged the sword into the lords back. He fell over roughly on top of Elizabeth and she whined with disgust as much as possible. Henry pushed him off of her, helped her up and took the cloth out of her mouth.
“Where did you get the sword?” she asked breathlessly.
“I stole it from one of the guards downstairs, come on! Lets get out of here!”
“Alright, let’s go!” she yelped with pure excitement.
They ran down the stone stairs as fast as they could and when they finally got out side where the wedding was supposed to be taking place, they saw a horse and quickly jumped on. They rode off into the sunset, looking forward to the lives ahead of them.
They would be filled with adventures, excitement, and, especially, love.
