My Avatar

Hello. I've turned on my homepage initially to see what I can do with it. So far, I have no fanart or other such material to share or promote.

I've not been an anime/manga fan for very long. I began attending my college's Anime society (that's RHUL, to anyone who might know the acronym) mid-way through last year, and have subsequently become fairly obsessed.

I enjoy a variety of anime, from rom-com shoujo, to drama and horror. I have a penchant for the bizarre in all genres. Though not always the serious. You could call it eclectic...I wouldn't.

That's it for now. Will update when I find something to actually upload here.

Ratings of recently-watched anime:

Only one new addition that I've seen all the way through. Hardly surprisingly, it's 'Full Metal Alchemist'.

Rating: A-

Wedding!
The wedding was today. The hotel the ceremony was in was lovely, a beautiful old building in the middle of Oxford. Everyone was happy - including the newlywed couple, which was of course the most important thing. I wish I could have a room full of books, like the one we ate in.

Though Mum and Ian mentioned having music played, the only music was Nic and I randomly and tunelessly singing 'A little respect' (not loudly, though)....and she and Ian singing 'Jerusalem' of all things, on the bus on the way back.

We have loads of pictures W. and B. are putting on the computer. I'll get them to print off some for me. I have an ancient photo-album somewhere...

Back to work tomorrow after the Bank Holiday. I'm the only admin person in for the rest of the week, because its half-term. Personally I wouldn't leave me solely in charge of mail and so forth, but I'll stay positive. :)

I might check the college site to see if re-enactment is on next weekend. If it is, I might go up. But I also want to see X-Men 3 at the end of the week (yeah, haven't heard good things but I wouldn't mind seeing it anyway), so I don't know.

Bah, the green looks nasty, but I'll change it tomorrow night. Hopefully. If not, then bear the nauseating colour-scheme 'til then.

I'm really interested in listening to podcasts. The Otaku one isn't bad. I have a thing about getting the BBC ones...have all of the Now Show and pieces of some of the regular programs.

The shameless geek that I am, I love ones which 'analyse' series or books. As it is, I only have a couple of subscriptions, but here are a couple I like:

MuggleCast - the podcast of MuggleNet, one of the two main Harry Potter fansites with very clever people writing intriguing articles about the 'Harry Potter' (alright, stop laughing ;)). Good for those who agree that Rowling's little fantasy can stand up to some speculation and discussion beyond the 'rabid fangirl' variety.

Annotated Alchemist - For what is so far a one-man show, I'm pretty impressed with this man's remit: to review and analyse no less then each Fullmetal Alchemist episode (in case you lost count, that's 51, plus the film). From character design and colour-schemes, to characterisation and relationships, the reviewer covers a wide range of topics. His references to anime and general sf/fantasy culture suggests that he's a fan who knows his stuff. On first impressions, a good listen.

Other Recommendation: old, but still good, the Annotated Pratchett File found on L-space web. A list of annotations to every Pratchett book up to 'Monstrous Regiment' in the Discworld series.

The first week of work has gone quite well. Its mostly - well, entirely - admin stufff consisting of filing, distributing post...archiving old case files. On the upside, the fact I'm contracted until mid-september means that I'll earn more money and experience in work then I've had...ever.

I'm very glad its Friday. I'm tired, but have to get up tomorrow to make sure I can give my books back to the library.

I have Keane in my head...
Well, the tune to 'Bedshaped' (or is that Snow Patrol?), anyway. I phoned the welfare people at college today. Have to wait until next week to possibly get an appointment. Bah.

On the up-side, I might be getting casual work from next week, because Mum says they're swamped and need more people. This is a major bonus because I wasn't expecting to get anything from them for a month, if at all. So, that's all good.

I had an...enlightening conversation with Nic the other night. She was talking about message board/fandom communities. Now, she's pretty well known in her 'neighbourhood', so to speak. I'm more of the mostly harmless lurking/observing type (most I comment on is TheOtaku stuff). I told her I was thinking of going to a convention, and when I told her about cosplay, she suggested I should dress up as an 'anime girl'. Bad mental image, that. I guess I should be kind of flattered... ;)

Being alone in the house has its advantages. I can play my own music on the stereo, and watch my DVDs on the big TV. And play my fansubs through my laptop and old speakers. Managed to get through two Mai HiME and three FMA yesterday, simply because they're the ones I have on my HD.

With ZoneAlarm effectivly down - and me relying on various other programs for security - trying to get BitTorrent to work simply for my own geekish entertainment is not a good idea.
