Here are some AMV reviews:
Title: Sex, Lies & Roses
Song: "Is it Me? Is it True?", by Midtown
Anime: Revolutionary Girl Utena
Artist(s): VegettoEX and Meri
Where to find it on The Otaku: Living Doll's homepage (the Doll House)
Why you'd like it:
*Excellent editing work
*Excellent synchronization of the footage and music
*Fairly nice quality despite the massive compression requirements made by VideoDesk (Nice job, Karen! ^_'d)
*Colorful and extremely well animated scenes
Why you wouldn't:
*Though a personal opinion, I'm not sure if the music selected was the best choice. The style and performance of the music seems to be an acquired taste. But that doesn't mean you won't like it!
*I honestly have no idea what this AMV is about, it doesn't seem to have a specific theme to it rather then RGU itself
Score: 8.7 out of 10
Final Analysis:
I've never seen RGU, so that's probably why I didn't enjoy the AMV as most RGU fans did. However, as I've said before, this is all a matter of previous viewing and tastes. Same thing goes for the music. But rendering personal opinions and pretenses null (just as I should in a review), I must say this piece was excellent. The editing was a massive success, syncing music tones and lyrics with the actions almost perfectly. The scenes chosen for the AMV looked very interesting and cool, making it a great watch for any RGU fan. If you've never heard of the series, you'll like the AMV. If you've seen and liked the series, you'll love the AMV. This is definitely worth a look for any anime fan!
Title: "Bring Em' On"
Song: "Cheerleader Theme", by...uh...I have absolutely no idea
Anime: Various "Yaoi" Animes?
Artist(s): The H.U.G. Company (awww, how sweet) and Kumaguro
Where to find it on The Otaku: Raven8763's homepage
Why you'd like it:
*Good job on the editing
*Guys...lots and lots of guys. >_< (ick!). But some of you girls out there may like that part...I think.
*Fist Fights! >:D
*Hilarious scenes that just scream out "Girly-Man!". XD
*These aren’t the manliest guys in the world, so it's funny watching em' fight!
Why you wouldn't:
*I...hate...Yaoi...
*Not the best quality I've seen. Some due to the anime quality, but some is also due to the editor
*This AMV lacks the much needed "spark" to be a the much needed perfect 10
*Who watches this kind of anime anyway? >_<
Score: 5.6 out of 10
Final Analysis:
When I saw the label "Yaoi", I thought "Oh boy, this is NOT going to be pleasant for me". Though it obviously contains some scenes of...uh..."gay guys gettin' it on", as I heard one fan-girl put it, it wasn't really as bad as I thought it would be. What they lacked in male-viewer hooks they made up for with the fist fights! Girly-man brawl! XD This pseudo-tough guy feel was emphasized by the cheerleader themed music. So this was actually OK for a "Yaoi" video, once you get your facts straight. XD But this video really isn't that special in my honest opinion. Sure, the editing's OK, but like I said, it lacks that need grain of genius that AMV's really need.
