Chapter I (part 16)

Jelil said nothing. Elefif’s assumption concerning his father seemed logical; and the death of Durak was a confirmed fact. He closed his eyes. Although he considered the possibility that none of his family survived long ago; and although he was already informed that his brothers didn’t survive the attacks of Ilderins, it still hurt him to hear irrefutable facts of their deaths. Ferhia, who listened in silence, compassionately placed her arm on Jelil’s shoulder and offered him a bowl of soup that she brought for him and Bariz earlier.
      - Thank you, I would like to eat with Bariz.
Actually, he was not in a mood to eat at all, but he didn’t want them to be worried about him.
      - I suppose you know about Alemdar and your mother.
      - My mother? So, she…
      - Hold your horses! So, he didn’t have time to tell you yet. She’s alive. She works in one of Ilderins’ plants somewhere on this continent. Bariz engaged all his abilities to find her. However, it is hart to obtain information. The only thing he managed to find out is that they didn’t take her to Ilderin, which is very convenient, for it will be easier to find and rescue her here.
Elefif spoke as it was the most natural thing that he and his group will help search and rescue her. Jelil wondered about the depth of the friendship between this man and his brother, when this one was ready to engage rebels on a task that takes so much means and time, and brings nothing but the pleasure to one of their members to have his beloved one pulled out of imprisonment. He sensed that his trust toward the leader of this rebel group grew. He knew that this was the man whose every fellow-fighter could rely on in any moment.
      - I would like to help searching her.
      - You can join our group if you wish. I hope you will not be in our way.
He looked at him severely and the tone of his voice pointed out that he meant on Jelil’s previous situation. When they found him he was a prisoner of Ilderins.
      - The time will show.
      Elefif laughed loudly.
      - A diplomatic answer. All right. You already met Dilaver Beshir. He is my right hand. I’ll inform him that you’ll join our group. Report to him tomorrow morning, so that he can sort you out where needed.
