Chapter II (Part 12)

Several weeks later, Avam's group went to one of the main hideouts at the southeast to get some rest and gather its strength. This place was completely different than the one Jelil spent time in before. It was a small town, surrounded by mountains, with townspeople working in the mines, earlier for Adem, and now for the conquerors. For them, basically, nothing changed. The townspeople were left in peace as long as they worked. Adem's rebels would blend in with citizens of that place at the time they spent there. There were four rebel groups spending time in that town one after another, claiming to be the same people. Since Ilderins were quite uninterested for the townspeople of Mine, the inspection that checked if Adems are leaving town of if they do their job seeing their numbers and the effect of their work, did not notice that, although there were always the same number of people, some of them were different. Rebel groups that used this hideout took a good care of their numbers. That is why a member of Avam's group stayed in caves over Night as a new member of Elefif's team. Avam had a family in this town.
      - Jelil, I want you to meet my sister Elifa.
A plump woman with a cheerful face, grayish hair tied in a bun, approached Jelil.
      - Elifa Raif. Pleased to meet you. My husband Ruveid is still at work; but meet my little girls Hedia and Jemina and my three little boys Entaz, Hurshid and Jesar.
Jesar, who could have been about 4 years old, was delighted to see Avam and ran to his arms. Avam loved these kids and enjoyed being near them. The oldest, Hedia, had a birthday tomorrow. Avam never missed to be present at a birthday of any of his sister's children. All proud, Hedia said to Jelil:
      - I will turn 19 tomorrow and we will make a grand party hear in house in the evening, when the working hours are over. You should come too.
Jelil didn't even hear Avam's answering that it goes without saying that Jelil will be there too. He heard another voice in his head: As of today, I am 19 years old! And in honor of my birthday I invite you to take a brake from your training and go to town with me and visit the Spring festival!
      - Are you all right, Jelil? You seem somewhat absent to me. You should take some rest. Come with me.
Avam led him to the house where he was planned to stay. When they entered, he asked Jelil:
      - Another memory?
      - Yes. But mine this time.
      - Do you want to talk about it?
      - It's nothing important. I just remembered that, on the day I was taken from Zibia by Ilderins, I was also invited on a birthday.
      - An important birthday?
      - In what sense?
      - Was the person who invited you important to you?
      - We were very good friends. She helped me a lot, to recover from my injuries, as well as to get accustomed to a new world. I am sorry I cannot find a way inform her and her father I'm fine.
      - Her father?
      - Yes. He is a biology professor on Zibia. He was very kind to me and gave me the support I needed then.
      - Do you plan to return there?
      - On Zibia? Yes. I would like to visit them. It is only that now I have neither time nor possibility to do that.
Avam realized that those Zibians were dear to Jelil, but he didn't manage to comprehend the depth of his feelings for this girl he undoubtedly cared for, when he thought about her after almost four months since his return and everything that happened here daily. In the time they spent together, he began to like Jelil. He knew how to take an order, but could also express his own opinion when needed. He was a reasonable young man, although Avam thought it would be better for him not to suppress foreign memories inside him, which he did. Avam wanted Jelil to explore the knowledge given to him, but it obviously put a great pressure on him, so he didn't want to force him to anything. He left Jelil to take a rest.
