   Academics, Sleep, and........Captaincy?
*hums the Spambuster theme*

Sorry about the rushed post the other day, I had to study for my last two exams, Honors World History II and Honors French III. I am such a smart little Sophomore, taking such advanced courses. ^_^

Anyways, I'm going to go through my day by period. Today was the first day of the third quarter/second semester, a day "A", so I had every class.

B Period: Chemistry. We got our exams back to look over and see what we did wrong. I got a 78 on it, I think. I'm happy with it, although I probably could have studied more and gotten better. This is the teacher's first year teaching, so we're sort of his guinea pigs when it comes to setting his standards.

C Period: Theology II. Our teacher was in Washington for the Pro-Life march, so we had a rather annoying substitute who kept trying to force us to speed read. We were supposed to be answering questions from the board. >_>

D Period: Photography. We went over a little of the next chapter, about light. We're hoping to get a study done before all of this wonderful snow melts. After that, manual labor, yay! We moved stuff from the old dark room into the new one. My teacher admitted to being a sexist and forced me to carry the heavier stuff. Silly Mrs. Kainz.....

E Period: Algebra II. We got our raw scores back from the exam. Our teacher is a talented mathematician, so he somehow manipulates the raw score into a final grade based on the range of our raw score, what group we were in, Intermediate math or Algebra II, and other things I don't trouble myself with. Anyways, my raw score was a 70, out of a possible 80. Mine was the highest score of the Algebra II students. Kevin, the boy who got the highest score in the intermediate group, merely got a couple of grunts of acknowledgment.

I got dirty looks and death threats....

F Period: Honors English II. Things are actually starting to look up for me in this class. We're almost done with the vocab, or at least a certain part of it. Vocab was a big problem for me this year; I just couldn't make it work the way my teacher wanted it to. Anyways, we switched seats around because of the new semester, so now I am freezing next to the windows and away from my close friends.

We're getting into Greek Literature, which I think will greatly help out with my average. I've always had a penchant for Greek mythology and stories, and I think they're much more straightforward than the Chinese poems and Japanese plays, with all of their underlying ideas and things I didn't understand. >_> So, here's hoping things improve.

G Period: Honors U.S. History. I've finished my one semester Honors World History II course, and we started our new class today. Same teacher, same seats, different book. Things seem to have gotten a bit harder, though....

H Period: Honors French III. Our teacher, Mr. Ayres, gave us a heart-to-heart talk about the grades on our exams. They were, to be put simply, awful. A bunch in the fifty range, maybe a pair in the seventies, and a couple in the eighties. I was fortunate enough to get a 71, which I was very happy to get after not studying.

After school, my class was having a pizza sale fundraiser that I was not able to attend, as my dad had an appointment.

EDIT: I had to switch computers mid-post. Yeck...

Anyways, I got dropped off at Sacred Heart by my dad, who then went off to his appointment. I actually got to talk to Christina, something more involved than "Hi" and "Goodbye", as well with another one of my friends, Trish.

I grabbed my siblings and headed down to my aunt's classroom. I dropped them off there and went outside to wait start up my aunt's car for her. Then Christina and Victoria showed up with several large snowballs.

After being hit several times, I put my backpack in the car and looked for suitable snow to use. All I could really find was ice-ridden snow. I, with my multiple layers of clothing and plain old manliness, could take such projectiles without too much discomfort. I was afraid to hurt the two of them, though, so I intentionally botched my throws. It would have been humiliating had anyone else been there.

Anyways, our aunt drove us home. I helped my little brother with his homework, dozing off a couple times in the process. I had some dinner, and then went to fencing practice.

Most of the people I normally do drills with were not at practice for some reason or another, most went on the Pro-Life trip. So I ended up drilling with Lisa, a dumpy sort of girl in Junior year. I like Lisa, she's just very nice to everyone. Then my coach switched partners around, and I ended up finishing up the drills with Reagan, my friend Eric's sister.

I fenced electrically once, and lost 5-2. I knew I could have come back, but John (my opponent) got in close and stabbed me. In-close fighting is the bane of my existence. >_< I just can't seem to do anything at that distance. Luckily, I got ahold of my coach for some on-the-side help. He taught me a bunch of in-close parries and counterattacks that should definitely help me the next time I fence.

*Glances at title.* Academics, check. Sleep...

I haven't been sleeping too well lately. I've been staying up and talking to people on AIM and posting on OB and such. I need to talk to Mimmi again, I think. >_>

As for the last part of the title, that has to do with fencing. After I had concluded my little session with my coach, our armorer was commenting on my bladework and such. My coach asked what year I was in, I replied "Sophomore." He cast and appraising glance at me and said something like: "Team Captain next year, maybe."

O_O'

Me? Team Captain?

What insanity was this? On the way home, I pondered the tentative choice. Our Captains for last year and this year are both Seniors, so they'll both be gone next year. Going through the Juniors on the team, I couldn’t find any that I would consider Captain material. But...me? I'm still not sure if I could do any better than they could....

I'll have to ponder that for a while. And I'll most definitely have to improve if I might end up getting the position.

22 Days (or thereabouts) until I go to Disney.
