Ten games to play before you die
For the sixth instalment of ten games to play before you die, I have decided on Metal Gear Solid 2 on the PS2. MGS2 appeared in 2001 and is the sequel to the blockbuster PSone game Metal Gear Solid.
After the Shadow Moses incident and Solid Snake and former lead developer of Metal Gear REX, Otacon, form the group ‘Philanthropy’ which is dedicated to destroying all Metal Gear units. They are soon informed that the US Navy have designed a new type of Metal Gear called RAY. Unlike previous Metal Gear mechs, this one can swim making it even more dangerous. So Snake is sent in to find and destroy it.
The best parts of the game are:
• the great plot;
• the unique characters;
• music that gives the game the feel of a Hollywood blockbuster rather than a game;
• Vamp is cool;
• Fortune is really sexy; and
• the epic final battles.
Unsurprisingly, MGS2 only has a single bad point, and that is you don’t play as Snake all the way through the game and instead, have to play as the new character Raiden for most of the game.
Metal Gear Solid 2 is by far one of the best games on the PS2 and will most likely have you playing it over, and over, and over again. Metal Gear Solid 2 is available in most good second-hand games stores or should be available on EBay.
