Return of "The Evil Anime Reviewer"
I feel like doing something different today, so I have brought out one of my old persona's: The Evil Anime Reviewer. It has been awhile since I have used it, but here goes.

My first anime of choice is a newer one to hit America's shores:

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi

Produced by: GAINAX, Madhouse

Ages: 16+, due to swearing and constant perversion jokes

Plot: Sasshi and Arami are two twelve year old friends whose families were brought together by the Abenobashi shopping arcade (note: arcade means a collection of storefronts in this anime). However, the recent urban renewal has caused many shops to leave the area, and has begun to unknowingly break a form a spirtual harmony that protected the arcade. The harmony of the arcade is said to come from four statues representing the four gods. When an accident befalls Arami's grandfather the last remaining god statue is broken. Before they know it, Sasshi and Arami find themselves stranded in a strange series of alternate worlds, each mimicing a style of game, anime, or movie, and each one centers around the shopping arcade and the families from the arcade. Now Sasshi and Arami must find a way to return to their own world, while trying to survive each new one they enter.

Personal Opinion: So far I have only seen the first two DVD's (eps. 1-7) of this series, and I really enjoy it. The character designs, and unique brand of humor follow in the footsteps of FLCL, which should appeal to some FLCL fans. As far as a plot is concerned, this anime seems to constantly put one on hold, making small steps forward every once and a while. The biggest problem with this is that the episodes tend to get repetitive, though each has a unique theme to catch the attention of veiwers.

Rating: 4 out of 5
