well I just finished my essay so here it is
What is the purpose of homework? Homework is used to develop specific skills in specific areas. Now here’s a question for teachers; why can’t we do similar stuff to homework in school? Is it because there’s not enough time in school to do all the stuff in class? Homework may have its uses and purposes but there are ways to replace it. Learning things that are taught in homework can be done in school and can also be better understood when told by a teacher. There may be help sessions for that but what if students are so overwhelmed with homework that they couldn’t come. Further more students may end up staying up to 12 p.m. or layer to finish homework on nights with these overwhelming odds. Here are the points that I will use through out this paper; longer school days, less to no homework, and needing time to study. Now see how homework can be worked around.
Teachers may disagree and say that homework is needed, but homework isn’t needed. With longer school days teachers may have activities teaching what homework teaches. I know that most students would rather have longer school days that homework. For example, giving school days one to two hours would be better than three to four hours of homework when one has other things to do. Longer school days where students learn in school and get help from teachers instead of parents would be a good idea. For extra help, help sessions are used but as I said earlier, people may have so much homework that they can’t come. This is another reason why longer schools days would be good. With the learning from teacher’s, not parent’s, comments I was meaning to say that sometimes teachers don’t have time to explain homework thoroughly, and so when students don’t understand they go to their parents that may not know quite what to say. Longer schools days are only one of the many ways around homework.
Having less to no homework is something that I know many kids would prefer. Without homework people will finally have more time to do things. Homework takes up much time, giving students only a few hours of free time. Sometimes students have projects and homework can interfere with that, especially when they have loads of it. When homework gets to be very special some students to not get enough sleep either. If teachers do not like the idea of no homework, then could give less homework. Even still, some homework may be better than no homework because children still need some kind of learning outside of school to keep them ready.
Studying can be hard when homework takes up what time you do have to do it. Some studying you do takes up more time than you have because of homework. This is why homework should be lessened and since studying for tests is more important should not be given on days before tests. Another reason why studying with homework can be hard is because homework is usually due the next day and required and so comes first. This makes it hard to study because homework has to be done by the next day while studying is more important but optional. That is why homework should be lessened to give students time to study.
The points against homework are as follows: longer school days, less to no homework, and needing time to study. I implore you to lessen homework and give us a break. In conclusion I don’t like homework and so I would like it lessened.
