Apparently I look so happy atm ^^ why do I get so giddy over boys? I think I may be able to call this one a man... he graduated a while back and now works (sort of). I was at a party on Sunday (awsome night) and introduced myself to this guy since I was stood next to him and we talked for about five minutes. I actually knew who he was before because I've seen him playing in bands around York, and he is friends with my housemate but he'd never noticed me before. (I'm shy and when sober hang around the dark corners).
Anyways when I got back (around 3am) guess whose added me on facebook? The time was about 11.30pm which means he must have gone straight back when the bands had finished and had a good stalk - since he only had my first name to go on and there are quite a lot of Jess' in York. Some may call that creepy, but it's not creepy when the guy is hot (fact!).
So this week I've met up with him twice an it's been really nice. I hope this continues. It's doing loads for my self confidence too, I mean I talked to this guy for no more than 5 minutes, and I was technically on a date with someone else (not happening btw).

I went to the most amazing party on Sunday held by the Ex-college president titled - so long and thanks for everything party. The bands were amazing. I'd forgotten how good some of the uni bands actually are.

My God! Man I know a lot about Captain Cook! And there's still more and more and ... O_o
Does anyone know what the quote in my title is from? Well I'm not gonna make you wait it's from Flash Gordon, a must see if you're too young to have grown up with it. Anyways it all links in with the post so don't stop now!
Turns out the Minster Library has quite a few books in the special collection on Captain Cook (Which mean's they're old and kept in a fridge until requested). So I spent most of last week in the most fabulous gothic library (apparently it's the largest cathedral library in the country) which is over 1000 years old, although i think the building may be about 800... anyways as I was saying - fabulous! On the first day there were signs up asking people to be quiet as there was filming going on around the building, turns out Sony were doing something for a game. Exiting stuff! After setting myself up on a desk I found that the books I'd requested were not out so I went back down to reception to ask where they were. As the librarian was trying to locate them the Sony lot all came down, i think, for Lunch. And OMG the guy who I thought had a beard like Brian Blessed was infact Brian Blessed!
I'VE BEEN IN THE SAME ROOM AS BRIAN BLESSED!!! He's such a legend and shouldn't be allowed in librarys as he's so loud. On the second day I spent in there I remember sitting outside in the Minster Gardens and I could still hear him shouting "MY OFFICE HAS BEEN DESTROYED!" (So look out for a game with Brian Blessed shouting that in the next few years and think of me trying to read =p ) I wonder if anyone else sat out sunbathing actually realised that the guy that sounded a lot like Brian Blessed actually was him? Probably not, he's such a legend! Him and his BOOMING voice.

Was in Whitby this week collecting data on Captain Cook for my thesis and dragged my housemate along with the promise of famous Whitby fish and chips. Fun times were had by all, although missed out on all the Dracula stuff that's there this time, maybe I'll goth it up next time I go.

God everything sucks! Firstly I have to give up my car, which is fine, I'd been given notice and I was prepared. What I wasn't prepared for Is my boyfriend - who still I might add loves me very much - having a panic and finishing our relationship. And for stupid reasons that no one can make sense of. Basically, he loves me and he can see himself being with me forever and he's wondering whether this kind of thing happens a lot (answer: NO!) He is quite inexperienced for a 21 year old but WTF? So he tells me he needs to be single right now to know for sure. What an idiot, he ruined the best year of his life because of pure stupidity. *sigh* I sure can pick 'em >.< he's being so selfish.
So I'm now left, not just with school stress but on whether I should hang around and wait for him to realise what an idiot he is or move on and pick one of the other lovely guys who I know would happily take his place. GRYAARR!
*breathes* okay calm..... pheeew!
All my friends have been great anyways, one guy is driving me to Hadrian's Wall to cheer me up bless him. There's nothing like a bit of world famous archaeology to get over a boy. (That idiot I loved him!!! >_O* )

+ Essays, archives and application deadlines, Oh my! +
So here I am procrastinating again, my PhD Application is due in tomorrow afternoon (I'm nearly done though) I have one 5,000 word essay draft due on the 3rd of April and one due on the 10th. The fully revised essays are due in on the 1st May, that's 10,000 words of Art History goodness in total, and that's not even including my research propsal for PhD study which should be another 5,000 words, i think that needs to be in my the 17th April. ...
To sum up, AARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!
I'm currently sat my boyfriends York house and he's making me dinner whihc is making me feel better anyways. He's about to go to Oman for three weeks and god I'm gonna miss him. I will hopefully work more though... Why did I have to pick a guy who lives in a far off country *sigh* At least i get to visit him.
So with all this stress I've done well and avoided the attractive anime retreat and stayed away from most anime watching. Just a bit of D.Grayman, damn that series is addictive.
Was at South Kensington yesterday at the RBS (Royal British Sculpture) foundation building, was kinda cool, the archivist showed us a load of sources, like letters and other personal photographs and things of famous artists that we might want to use in our research. We also drank lots of tea mmmmmm. We then headed to the Victoria and Albert Museum to look at more sculpture. I'm a wizz now I tells ya! On the way back I ran into a group from my old school and had a chat with the teachers, that was random...

Gah I should be working on PhD applications but instead I'm reading manga >.< I'm going with the assurants that as my boyfriend will be up all night doing his project work (due in tuesday) so I too will stay up and get my work done. (this plan better work). And omg I just looked outside and it's snowing quite bad... ack bf has rowing in that...
otaku news
I can't wait for the Ouran High School Host Club box sets to come out. That series fills me with a warm and fuzzy feeling where only kittens normally tred! (I mean that metaphorocally). And then there's Ergo Proxy which I finished recently, god I loved that series, although some advise for those who enjoy the pretentious anime genre - find yourself a philosophy major to sit by you and explain everything, it adds to the enjoyment and they will feel smug for getting all the random references - this however is not a must as most things are explained at the end.
But if there is any anime you have not yet seen I would recommend Darker Than Black with music by Yoko Kanno, and songs by Abingdon Boys School and Rei Fu, AND by some of the creators of Cowboy Bebop, it promises a lot. And it delivers as far as I'm concerned. An alternative to the popular super heroes genre which reminds us all that when the Japanese get it right they get it fantabulous! (a word I have created because there is no word in exisitance to decribe my delight).

el ranto
Gah! the trip my sculpture group were taking to the Henry Moore insitute and archives has been postponed untill the last week of term. Sad times, I was hoping to get my hands on some material this week to get my essay on its way, nvm. It gives my more time to look at the Bernini Chapels I'm researching for my Baroque module i guess. (If you don't know who Bernini is you will once the Angels and Demons film is out *sigh* gotta love how pop culture redefines the things you love) I have to give a presentation on my essay topic on Friday (arrrgghhh stress!) And I'm missing fencing tonight again! (yes I'm doing a sport) as I'm still full of cold (joy!)
On the up side my bf is coming down from Durham uni tomorrow to see me (woot!) it's been nearly 2 weeks! I don't know how i managed last summer when he went home for 2 months. He lives in Oman so it's not like i can just pop over on the train >.<
otaku update
Well enough with the ranting and what not, I decided to socialise with the otaku at uni this weekend and actually show my face at animesoc.
They show some strange things at animesoc, I'm working on getting them to show Darker Than Black and Ergo Proxy next term (and if I can swindle it Kuroshitsuji for the 5 girl members). My Argument will be *ahem* "I'm a girl! I have breasts!" okay joke! but it probably would work lol. So anyways I went and sat at the back of the room where i had an entire row to myself. Luckily not for long as the Chair saw me entre and came and sat with me *giggles* My housemate has dubbed the Chair of animesoc "pretty Simon" - I'll admitt he's pretty, in an androdgynous kind of way. My housemates are convinced he's into me, which allows for much laughter and in jokes around the house, but i truely believe he'd rather play on WoW. Saying that, he did leave his row of otaku admirers to sit in the dark with me where we tried to figure out the dynamics of the hair styles in Pumkin Scissors (seriously wtf?)...
In other nerdy news I have offically past a line of otaku and cosplayed for a birthday party, where we trailed around Durham in a drunken mess to the confusion of practically everyone. I'll maybe think about posting the group photo at some point (we made one guy go as Pikachu lols)my outfit actully rocks! Emergency cosplay outfits are always handy... I'll let you ponder on that... hmmmmm...

Yes, i know, i'm back, yet not... Well it's not that i don't want to be on the otaku more, i'm just busy (mainly in the library) i don't even see my friends anymore! It's a lonely life being a postgradute. And just to fill you guys in, it's not like college in America, we have very little lesson and lecture time, it's all self study in the UK. I only have 4 hours of teaching a week and the rest is my own research which means lost of reading on my own.

Yes and as for my random post before, yes it was a bit rushed, and yes I am in radio, but not really professional yet. I'm still at Uni and still doing archaeology. I'd like to think I've changed a lot this year, after getting dumped by two James' in one summer I kind of went in on myself, went a bit wild and well... eventually rescued by very pretty guy (and when I say pretty, I mean would make men turn gay), who kind of dated for a bit, went strange and who is now best friend. S'all good really.
Urrrrm yeah, so have been busy, I guess I socialize a lot now and have a big mouth which seems to work for me, generally people seem to like the new loud me (it just happened really). The singleness is getting to me a bit, it shouldn't as I have been asked out by loads of guys but not really any I like back, in that way. Still...

I drive the news on Mondays at 6 (ie, push all the buttons etc...) and have a soundtrack show on Tuesdays at 4pm (Oh this is all UK time btw)and a foriegn radio show at 10pm on a Sundays with my two favourite boys, where I specialise mainly in Japanese music so if you guys wanna suggest any then post away! ^_^ Oh and listen in at ury.york.ac.uk to hear my sexy O_o okay, loud mouth voice clog-up the airwaves lol I think you can check my profile on there, I'm down under Jess Shepherd
