I"m p*ssed off
I really really really hate people who think themselves as 'real' artists because they don't use CG.
I posted one of my works up and this person kept saying that CG is fake, false, cheating, etc, etc.
I really resent it when people aren't tolerant of the way other people do their art.
Geez, if they don't like CG, that's fine, but don't push it and say all artists who use CG are charlatans or something.
AAAAAARRRRRRGHHHHH......I need more medication.....I'm too sensitive, gets hurt and angry too much.......

Holiday
Hello, all, I've just came back from Vietnam and Cambodia.
It was about 45 degrees Celcius, and staying out for more than 5 mins was impossible.
It was interesting though despite the fact that we get served noodles for Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I got a lot of $1 T-Shirts....
We also went to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat (where tomb raider 2 was filmed). I got food poisoning and threw up at an archeological site. Otherwise, it was awesome.

FanimeCon 2004 report
Hello,
I'm back from my weekend in San Jose attending Fanimecon.
Me and a friend set up a table to sell our artworks and I have to say that we were pleasantly surprised by how well we did.
It seems that convention goers love original art rather than digital printouts. Sketches and quick commissions are popular too.
My friend got never-ending commissions for Sasuke from Naruto. I think over 50% of her profits has to do with drawing Sasuke.
Most of my profits came from original works of art that I did. I sold all of my old original artworks. I sold some prints too, but that's a pretty small part of it.
People also seem most interested in buying on Saturday.
We didn't really get to see ANY of the events or panels as we have to man our tables from 9 to 7 everyday. I wasn't bored though, because you meet lots of interesting people who come to your table to chat and request commmissions. You also see lots of weird cosplayers walking past.
I'll post some of the pictures later - I hope to see some of you in a convention sometime in the future.

Fanime Con 2004
Anybody going to FanimeCon this year? Its in San Jose over memorial day weekend. Me and a friend are setting up a table there.
Does anyone have any idea what kinds of art sell well? I"m planning to sell some of my original stuff and also some digital prints.
I've never done this before so I'm somewhat nervous, do give me tips if you have any.

End of Semester!!
Its the last week of semester whoooo!
Got an A in Illustration class! But B's for the other clases though....:(
I'll be doing a lot more anime-related artworks from now. I'll be making stuff to sell at FanimeCon 2004 - probably manual stuff because they tend to be more unique than digital.

Ebay
O God....I accidentally bid $999.00 for a doujinshi. I put the decimals in the wrong place - I meant $9.99
I ended up paying $19 which is really really lucky. Some Assh*le could have bid really high up and I"d have to top him/her.

I'm alive!
Yep I'm alive and kicking after all....its been ages since I posted anything because my computer crashed with a virus and its got some hardware problems too. I have a nice new laptop now.
Also been working like a slave throughout the semester and even now that its spring break, I've been working non stop to get all my schoolwork done.
Thanks to all those people who signed my guestbook while I was MIA. I'll try to visit your page and sign your guestbooks too.
I'll have some new stuff up on my site soon too. Its traditional art though, since I haven't had time to do much anime lately.

Rant
I'm going to rant today.....I just spent 10 hours working on my pen and ink illustration and I posted it up on another message board for review and someone said that the perspective is wrong and the linework is no good. You can see the picture here:
http://www.bluecatsbasement.com/Academic%20pages/Mad%20maid.htm
Normally, I would have taken these criticisms to heart and get depressed but this time, I went to my critiquer's website to see HER art - guess what? I see no evidence of perspective whatsoever and I'm not impressed with her coloring, gesture, pose etc - and I wonder why she never posted her own pic to be reviewed.
Not to say that there's nothing wrong with my pic, but damnit, critique only if you know what you're talking about.

Encouragement for all artists.
I'd like to share a bit of inspirational stuff with you guys.
I've been taking a class on the History of American illustration and
its nothing less than encouraging to hear how some of these great
illustrators started.
For example, did you know that Charles Dana Gibson, creator of the
Gibson girl, sold his first drawing for only $4. The buyer later said
that he knew the drawing was bad, but underneath the badness, he
could see the determination of the artist to get everything right.
Howard Pyle, a great teacher and illustrator, nearly gave up art
because he felt so intimidated by the other illustrators at Harper's
Weekly magazine. But now, he is remembered as one of the greatest
American illustrators and teacher of all times.
Students of Pyle too,(Violet Oakley, NC Wyteh,Jesse Wilcox Smith,
etc) went on to great success and they each did it with their own
individual styles. Pyle didn't care what style his students pursued
as long as they pursued it wholeheartedly, and they did.
So my point is, don't give up on what you love to do even when you
think you're no good or hopeless, you have nothing to lose by trying
your hardest and everything to lose if you don't try at all.

Another boring post
Well, well, I've been working hard but I'm actually feeling quite good and happy with myself. Lets see....last night, I've just finished a still life painting, a tutorial, a notebook page for illustration and a sketchbook page for Heads and Hands class....I'm tired, but satisfied.
I've been thinking of doing a tutorial on Charcoal. I see that lots of people like my drawing of Wolfwood in Charcoal, so I think I'll make one when I have time. Meanwhile I've just completed a "guide to art mediums" tutorial that's on my site.
In the next few weeks I'll also be putting up my stuff from my Illustration class, Heads and Hands class and anything that is decent enough to put up. They'll be on my site though, since I'm not confident enough to display my academic stuff in a public gallery.
I've also been thinking about the Freudian concepts of ID, EGO and SUPEREGO lately....I've only taken a semester of Freud, but I think it relates quite a lot to my depression. I'll talk about it in my next post, I have to go now.
