Laptops
Song of the Day: "Try Your Emotion" - W-inds
Current Mood: Thoughtful
Current Obsession: Laptops
Actor of the Day: Rupert Grint - Harry Potter (Ron)
Quote of the Day: "When you arrive and everyone is busy hooking up their systems and making sure it all works(perhaps some cards or internal cables came loose) you just flip up the screen, turn it on, and heckle everyone else who can't get their system running right. Heckling is one of the best parts of a LAN party after all." ~ Guide-to-laptops.com
I'm looking to get a new laptop for university. And I'm kinda confused by all the stuff that I need to know for it O_o;; Which kind of sucks, considering my course is a video games course, but piffle. I'm gonna think aloud about it for a few moments. Anyone who's not interested should just switch off now ^_~
I'm after something that can play most up-to-date video games. So, a decent graphics card would be handy, as well as a buttload of RAM. The RAM would also be handy for playing DVDs, since I plan to be doing a decent amount of that. And video-editting. Let's not forget the video-editting ^_~;; I'm definately gonna want an up-to-date version of DirectX though. Oh yeah, and a fast CPU would be nice, though I'm not jumping in my seat about it. It'll need to be fairly fast to handle media (DVDs, music, graphics etc), so, yeah. Speedy CPU ^_^;;
Audio, I'm really not too fussed with. Sure, I want an audio card in there, but it's not like I'm gonna be hooked subwoofers up to it, so as long as it'll play CDs and works with headphones, no problemo.
Now, I'm kind of hung on whether I want a CD-RW. Definately not a DVD-RW, or even just a DVD-R, since if I'm dealing with files that are that kind of size, the university will doubtless provide me with ways to push it about. Either that or I can find another way to do it. No worries. But I'm definately after a DVD drive, if just to watch all my movies/fansubs. I'd also love for it to be multi region, but by the looks of things I'm gonna hafta choose a region and stick to it. Which... sucks. Yes it does. :-P
What else?
Oh yeah, all the "little bits". Things like a firewire socket (for my iPod) and USB / USB2.0 ports (for printers, extra harddrive, Zip drives, whatever). I'm also kinda looking at a pocket-hard-drive, or whatever they call them. The ones that are really dinky, like keyring sized, and have like 60/80MB capacity. Those would be handy. Y'know, I've written a paper for my class, why take my laptop to the printer? Why not just take it on the little pocket thing? I dunno if I'm gonna need/want a floppy drive, I'll ask Dad's advice on that. I can't see why I would need one, most of these things get done via CD these days, but y'never know I guess.
So... I'm most concerned with a DVD drive, a quick CPU, RAM, and "sockets". Oh, and the graphics card ^_~
I'm done now, I apologise ^_^;; Comments would be welcome.
