Here I Am
The more things change, the more they remain... insane.
- Michael Fry & T. Lewis Greetings All! Gosh, it's been almost two months since I last posted. WOW! It's amazing how time flies isn't it? The last two months really have been quite full and busy. There was finals week which really kicked me in the butt and got me all stressed out. Then I spent a week back in Dallas and basically hung out with friends all week. The trip from Dallas to Tennessee was fun. My mom hated it, but I had a blast. ^_^ And then I started my new job this week. That's a quick rundown about all that happened. Now, to go more in-depth.
Finals
As I said, it was stressful. I had a final every day of the entire week. But, they weren't all that difficult. For example, my graphic design course had a project for the final. It was an easy project too. So, that took no time whatsoever. My evangelical theology class we very similar. It was an actual test, but it wasn't a hard test by any means. I passed it with flying colors I'm sure.
The real kickers of the week were my philosophy class and my typography class. Philosophy didn't seem to be all that hard of a test. If we had read the material and studied well we would of course do well. He also gave us a study guide to fill out. That helped. The worst part of the test was that it was a take-home test. I had never had a take-home test before. It really threw my morals for a loop. It shouldn't have, but it did. I was more than tempted to just take the test while looking at my notes and my study guide. And when I say more than tempted, I mean that if the test had been much harder than it was I probably would have looked. How horrible am I? *sigh* But, I stood my ground. I took the test honorably. I studied well, sat down, and took it. Yay for minor moral victories!
My typography class was a completely different story. It was the other class in which I had a project for a final. The project was to go into the cemetery which is across the street from campus and take pictures of individual letters on gravestones and then to use those letters to create your own font. It was a fun assignment, but it was also the most stressful one of the week. My entire grade hung upon me doing well on that final. If I hadn't done well, I would not have passed. The entire project was probably about ten hours of work. I was out in the cemetery taking pictures for probably about 2 hours. It then took about 8 hours form start to finish to go through and vector each of the letters and make them look nice. It was good practice with the pen tool in Illustrator. Heh heh! There was one complication though: file size. I, without thinking, just imported all 26 pictures into one Illustrator file and began vectoring them. Well, each picture was massive. I managed to create a 5 Gb illustrator file. This majorly slowed down my system. And at one point it crashed and managed to revert a couple of my saves. I lost about 2 hours of work. I recovered though, with the help of my wonderful friend Joe who helped me discover the source of my troubles. I ended up doing very well on the assignment and was pleased with my work. The picture with this section is the font I created, if you were wondering. All in all I managed to come out of the semester with something like a 2.8. This puts my GPA at a whopping 3.0 cumulative. This needs to be fixed. It's too low. Hopefully I'll do better next semester. In fact, I can't think of any reason why I wouldn't do well. My classes next semester are all art classes with the exception of one. I should do well. Wish me luck!
Dallas
Dallas used to be home. It's not anymore. So, it was a bit awkward being there for a full week. I got to hang out with all of my friends, go to all my usual hang outs, do the things I used to be able to do, but I didn't have a home to go back to. Everything I owned was in the back of my car for the entire week. If I had wanted I could have lived straight out of my car. I didn't, but I could've. Instead I spent the week with my grandfather. I saw a few movies, went to the Dallas Go Club, travelled around to various Half Price Bookstores, ate out, went to parties, and overall just had a blast all week. I enjoyed myself. Yay! The perfect way to end a tough semester. Yup.
Tennessee Trek
It took a full day of driving for me to get from Dallas to my parents' new home in Tennessee. Yeah, it was a long drive, but it was a fun one. I got to see areas of the country that I had never really seen before. Louisiana, MIssissippi, Alabama, and Georgia are all beautiful states. I also had the company of my mom and sister on the road. Granted, we were all in separate cars (each loaded to the brim with stuff), but it was still fun. We had walkie-talkie's that we used to converse and we had a few stops along the way. But, the thing that made the drive the best was my music. I love my music and I like to sing along with it. I rationed my music throughout the day with the more upbeat and peppy stuff for the beginning of the day, the more eclectic stuff for the middle of the day (the kind of stuff i can easily sing along with), and I left my very favorite music to the very end of the day so I would have some good motivation to continue diving. I had had a bottle of Guinness beer sitting in my car which was left over from a party I went to a night or two before. And, when my energy and peppiness shot through the roof after dinner due to the fact that that was the point at which i started playing my favorite music, my mom thought I might have opened the bottle and gotten a bit tipsy. HAHA! I hadn't (I saved the bottle for Lost on wednesday night), but I can see how she might have thought that. I was really happy. heh heh! Music affects me that way. I don't know why. Good music can lift my spirits like nothing else can. Anyway, we made it through the trip with no major problems. We were all very tired by the end of it, but that was to be expected.
Anyway, I have more to post on, but for now I'll leave it at that. This is a long enough post as it is. In a few days I'll be posting more, hopefully. ^_^ I'll also be coming around to all of your sites within the next couple days. So, I'll see you all 'round TheO! Have a great day!
