And The Bad Chi Continues
Ho! Ye who suffer! Know ye suffer from yourselves. None else compels.
- The Lords of Karma
Greetings all! I hope you’re all having a great day! Today’s post is the accumulation of information regarding the entire past week. There has been a lot of stuff that happened, that much I can tell you. Yet, I can also quite confidently tell you that the “bad chi” I spoke of in one of my earlier posts has not left me, and is in fact increasing. So, on with the post.
FM2601
*sputter* *sputter* *sputter* *klink* *klink* *sputter* -silence-. Well, it wasn’t really complete silence. It was actually just my car that was silent. I, on the other hand, was yelling obscenities and curses I’d preferably not type out here. Why was I yelling? Because I’m stupid. Because I lack grey matter. Because I allowed my car to run out of gas on a stretch of highway dubbed FM2601 outside Moody, Texas (Moody being an apt name considering my current emotional state). I was traveling down to my friend David’s house for a 4th of July celebration consisting of barbecue, explosions, conversation, and anime. As I left the Dallas area I had about ¼ tank of gas. Why I didn’t fill up before I left, I don’t know. But, on this little highway outside Moody was where that ¼ met it’s demise. At this point I had to get out of the car and push it off the road. That was a challenge in itself due to the fact that I was alone. I had some trouble with it. I couldn’t get the thing moving at first by just pushing on it. So, idiotically, I decide to take a running start at it. I back up about 5 feet and run full force with both hands outstretched to catch the edge of the trunk. Of course, being the klutz that I am, my hands completely miss the edge of the trunk and instead catch nothing but air, allowing the full force of my charge to be absorbed completely by my chest. Pain. Lots of it. Thankfully, my stupidity paid off and I did manage to get the car moving, but the price was just too high. My chest still hurts. I can’t even sneeze without wincing.
Also, as I was pushing my car off the road, I managed to encounter some bull nettle. If you don’t already know what this lovely plant is, it’s small, shrub-like, and has hoards of microscopic little needles all over it which when encountered by the epidermis cause an incredible burning sensation that lasts for about two hours. I somehow got both of my legs covered in these wonderful little needles. I then had to walk about 3 – 5 miles to David’s house (which was closer than a gas station at that point). Once there, the rest of it was really simple. David got a can of gas and drove me back to my car. He poured in the gas and then I followed him to the nearest gas station. The walk to David’s place, from my pathetically gasless car, was the most interesting part of the entire event. It took me about and hour and a half to do. I certainly had a long time to think, but mostly I just sang to myself. I also stuck up a conversation with a heard of cows. It’s surprising how insightful those bulky beasts actually can be. I even started spouting bad poetry on my little trek. I can’t remember it now, but I thought it was good at the time.
The rest of the 4th went well. I enjoyed my time at David’s. The barbecue was fantastic, the fireworks were awesome, the conversation was certainly interesting (apparently, according to one girl, watching anime makes me gay), and the anime watching was fun. I’m glad I went.
An Unfortunate Rock-Skipping Incident
This past weekend a couple of my friends from college and I went camping. We went to Beavers Bend State Park in Oklahoma. It’s an absolutely beautiful area of the country. I loved it. We hiked a bit around the lake, rented some kayaks and went down a 2 – 3 mile stretch of river, and did a lot of swimming. Truly it was a blast. I’m glad we went. So far it’s been the second best weekend of my summer (second only to the amazing A-Kon weekend). But, as is normal with me, nothing good can come without a little bad. The last day of our trip we were down on the lakeshore skipping rocks as we talked. My friend, Joe, picked up what must have been a rather slippery rock and tried to skip it. As he swung, the rock slipped out of his hand. This of course is the hopeful result when one attempts to skip a rock. It leaves the hand, travels an undetermined distance before striking the surface of a body of water at the precise angle that causes it to skip up off the water. Joe’s rock managed to do most of that. Sadly, it got confused around the part where it was supposed to strike the water. It left his had correctly, traveled an undetermined distance before it struck something, but it wasn’t the water that it struck. It’s unfortunate target was instead my face, more specifically, my tooth. It hit so hard it actually chipped off ¾ of my left front tooth. I felt no pain. It was just a sudden jolt. I didn’t even see the rock as it came at me. I’m just glad it wasn’t painful. It’s a little soar now, but that’s all. I’ll hopefully be going in to the dentist tomorrow to get it cleaned and capped. I’ve been needing to visit the dentist anyway.
Wordplay
This evening (Sunday) I saw an absolutely incredible movie! If you haven’t seen it yet, I strongly suggest you go see Wordplay. It’s a documentary about crossword puzzles. This consists of the history of crosswords, the people who make them, the people who solve them, and a tournament which takes place every year in March. So fun! It is probably the most entertaining documentary I have ever seen. Please, if you can, go see this movie. I also saw a midnight showing of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest on Friday. Also a great movie. I’ll be seeing it again this coming Friday with my boss at work. He want’s to take all of us interns for a PAID afternoon of fun at the movies! How cool is that?! He’s even paying for our tickets and popcorn while still keeping us on the clock! I’m so excited! I’ve never actually made money going to a movie before. I can’t wait.
Well, with that I am finished. I have nothing else to say. So, you can all stop reading now. Have a great day and I’ll see ya ‘round TheO! Sayonara!
