Museum
Today I went to the museum with my parents and sister. When some people hear the word ‘museum’ they go like ‘BORING!’ or ‘Museums are for nerds!’. Which is (in my opinion) not true. The museum that we visited is the ‘Limburgs Museum’ in Venlo (where I live). It shows the history of the city of Venlo.
Prehistory
When you enter that room you walk straight into a collection of human skulls. Homo erectus, homo sapiens all those. And they had wax figures with animal skins. And of course the usual stuff: bones, small stone knives and pottery.
Romans
’Wome is youw vwiend!’ Historical words from Monty Python’s Life of Brian. You can find loads of Roman stuff in Venlo. There has even been an archaeological site where they have found houses of craftsmen, city walls and even a part of an old Roman bathhouse. Again wax figures: a soldier, a rich Roman man, a poor woman and a potter (no his name was not Harry!). And also beautiful Roman glass, which also can be found in Venlo’s soil.
Medieval
Loads of miniature castles! Very nice. I think that the Medieval period in human history is one of my favourites. They also had very nice swords and other weapons such as axes and a longbow. And some very interesting armour (‘Solo!’). Very small part of the museum.
Other
And then there was the rest of Venlo’s history. A room filled with small kitchens and a room filled with religious stuff (which wasn’t interesting at all). And then they had an exhibition my sister (10 years old) wanted to visit: ‘Barbie – 45 years of dreams and reality’. At first I was like: ‘I’m way too old to visit a Barbie exhibition!’, but when I stepped into the room It was like: ‘I had that one! And that one! And look at the small yellow shop…I used to have that too!’ Sometimes when I was looking at a group of dolls a little girl would say something like : ‘Oh mummy, I want that one too.’ Mum: ‘If it’s not too expensive I’ll think about it.’ Little Girl: ‘I love you mummy!’ It made me feel soooo old >_< . Especially when I saw all those little kids and I was saying something like: ‘I used to have that!’ and a woman who was about 40 years old would say the same thing.
But it was a really nice day. I also liked the strawberry ice cream in the restaurant ^_^ . It made me feel young again, HOORAY!!!
