Commentary on Voting with Your Dollars column
This week was a personal pet peeve of mine. I've had many fights with friends about their downloading habits. It's one of those "if you don't vote, you don't have a say" sort of things. Buying the dvd or manga is the only way to vote for what you want to see more of.

There is definitely a generational gap between those who download and those who buy. I'm 24 and I rarely download. It seems like I'm at the age breaking point. A lot of people younger than me see no harm in download ("What do my dollars matter to a big corporation?") and a lot of people older than me wouldn't imagine getting something for nothing.

I do feel that DVD prices are too expensive to really just impulse buy something new. The last new DVD I got that I didn't already know I'd love was the first season of Supernatural, because it was on sale for $25. I'd seen an episode or two on TV and always thought it looked decent, so I decided to take the plunge and just buy it. So far, its enjoyable, but really only worth about $25. Unfortunately, many impulse buys have ended up being worth far far less than what I paid. ... Miyuki-Chan in Wonderland -_- And that was only $15.

Oh, and along this topics line, Radiohead did something revolutionary with their new album - They are charging you whatever you feel like paying. If you want to pay $0, then all right. Here are a few articles about it. Telegraph.co.uk Radiohead fans pay up to £100 for download
Scotsman.com - What price innovation?
I'll be really interested to see how this experiment ends. It does look like they are releasing a CD album with extra tracks and special vinyl records in a few months.
