Subject? : OBSERVATION!
AWESOME!
I know now in what context I wanna teach: Immersion! lol... that's not definitive though, I've still got to see how the secondary works like in french as a second language XD
The school was quite... well, let's just say that it's a socio-economically poor neighbourhood. BUT the thing with it is that they've been the WORLD CHAMPIONS IN ROBOTICS FROM 2004-2006. YES. ROBOTS!
how cool is that? They've gone to competitions in japan, new york, all sorts of places that i might never see... *sigh dreamily* yep, those 'poor' kids beat the Japanese kids, the Chinese kids, the American kids... viva Canada! XD
What I have to say though is that in the class i've been to observe, about 90% of the kids were immigrants or children of immigrants. It makes one wonder about lots of stuff. Lately, I've seen a movie called 'American History X' I don't think that many of you have actually seen it. In fact, If you're younger than 17, don't. It's very disturbing (hell, it disturbed ME!) and very hard movie. I was a sobbing wreck at the end of it.
Well, to get to the point, I keep asking myself the question: what are those kids gonna do when they grow up? Will the teacher's guidance be enough to pull them away from this neighbourhood and help them get a better life? It'll be wonderful if we did... but we all know that life has a twisted way of twisting our dreams and wishes into somethings that we can'T even begin to immagine.
