Tragedy
Something terrible happened today in Montreal.
There was a shooting downtown, Dawson college, which is the equivalent of an American high school.
Many were wounded, and two ppl died, including the shooter.
I was in class when it all happened, at l'Université de Montréal. There had been rumours of a shooting, but i didn't give it much credence. i mean, who would have thought that something like that would ever happen?
But when i returned home, it's there that it kinda jumped on me. it's all over the news, i got mails from abroad asking if everything was all right, what happened etc.
the girl who died was 21.
the shooter was 25.
what pushed him to do something like that? is it the same as with the guys in Columbine?
I don't know, and i feel scared now that i am here so far from my family. i feel scared because after columbine, a series of copycats were carried out in various parts of the world.
It will happen again, we just don't know where, when, and by whom it will be carried out.
If this is the case, where is a 'safe place'? The government promises us sanctuary, but can it protect us from our fellow citizens?
This is one more blatant example that they can't and probably never will be able to live up to our expectations. they swaddle us in promises and false images and we contentedly dream on of a great place we live in and will live in.
If this guy's motives were similar to what happened in columbine, then society is at fault too.
Which means you, I and all of those we know.
I'm sorry.
