Senior Reflects:
Flashback Through Time

It has been thirteen years, wow. It certainly seems like such a long time when you think on it as years, but in memories those years seem so short in comparison. As many would say “It seems like only yesterday.” I too find myself saying it more often then I can remember. The past years have been a struggle and still are, as long as I have a goal in life. To me, as my life in school began from elementary to high school it started out as what I would think simple, but as life progresses I discovered new faces and places. With each discovery that I made, I gained more knowledge of what who I was, but with knowledge I learned that there was more than what met the eye and simplicity became complex.
Even as I think about my earlier years in school, back in kindergarten, it occurs to me that all was not that simple, for back then I lacked the knowledge of the English language. I had little to no communications with those around me, yet there was one person that had dared to talk to me and kept me company. That special person, KB, has still been by my side through all these years and I hope she will remain so, for her gift of friendship I am grateful to have.
By the time I reached third grade my English became quite proficient enough that almost everyone could understand me. By then I took my first trip to Dollywood and was excited to attend. As fate would have it rained that day. That limited us to which rides we rode, as if our height back then was not limited enough; thus my first trip there was a disappointment. But as each year passed my trip to Dollywood became better than the last as I met new friends to go with.
When my elementary years ended I had acquired one more close friend, VH. Though we started off on a rocky road. We went from chasing her away from me to being the best of friends. I came to know her better as we found each other together in the same classes. As I recall we had created a small club in which we called “The Honeysuckle Club”. Our club would get together at recess and roam near the forest by the school’s playground, though the teachers kept an eye on us. We had always managed to sneak off in search of honeysuckles, but our club came to an end when we moved on to Middle School at East Ridge for they had no forests to roam or even recess.
Middle School started off slow for me, but I met new faces and new responsibilities that kept me on my feet. One of my challenges at the time was gym class. I will admit that the exercise was not my problem. No matter how the rules were explained to me, I had no mind for sports. When the time came for me to play I would fake my way through them. To this day I still do not know how I could have been the last one left standing in dodge ball.
For me the best year of middle school was my eighth grade year. It was near the end of the school year when our English teacher had created a talent show for us. The whole eighth grade was in a frenzy preparing and creating skits and commercials for the whole school to see. Each student would be grouped by fours or threes and they had to come up with their own skits. To my delight my group included my best friend KB. As we planned two skits I was to provide props for our skit and on our practice I accidentally hit one of my friends on the head with our prop which was a wooden sword. It was quite humorous from my point of view but I am sure she did not believe it to be humorous.
The skit that my friend and I came up with was titled “Fro-Gain.” Fro-Gain was the hair product that we had created, and it was used to turn lame straight hair into a more exciting style of a fro instantly. Oh, how we laughed at the idea, but went along with it for we wanted a good grade. To our luck we passed onto the show and it made us quite pleased. The highlight of the show was to be the ending, when my friends KB and LJ were given the stage to play one of their many favored songs. There I stood backstage watching KB sing a song from Nirvana, while LJ played on her guitar.
Eighth grade was my favorite year mixed with the excitement of moving onto high school. Now, I find myself thinking of all those humorous moments in my life such as squirting hand sanitizer up a friend’s nose by accident, slipping on mashed potatoes in lunch and throwing a Skittles at a friend’s mouth for it only to land on in her mouth perfectly. East High has been awesome and it has brought me to a whole set of new people who I would never have thought or dreamed to meet and become friends with them. It was not till the end of my freshmen year that I met this loud, always on the side of hpyerness Shadowtiger69, that I came to really realize that life did not have to be so serious all the time.
From thereon we would not be separated nor do I wish for it to occur. It is to Shadowtiger69 whom I owe my love for anime and manga. It was she who introduced me into it, and to this day, I do not walk around without at least one or two anime things upon my body. Now it is my senior year, and it leaves me thinking of what the future may hold for me. Hopefully, it will be of great memories, but why hope when I can make it happen. Let the year continue. I will face it with pride, cherishing every moment of it, because I believe that you can be a high school senior only once!
