Chapter 1: The Beginning

The year was late in November, the air was becoming very bitter.
A lone red deer was grazing across the glen, swaying through the deep tangle of heather that covered the hillside. The stag’s coat glistened russet and gold in the dying sunlight slanting down the valley, and on its head was a pair of rugged antlers reared into the sky, like coral or the branches of a winter oak. The stag was royal with twelve spikes on its proud head, and its antlers marked it out instantly as an animal of power and distinction. The stag’s fur was thick, but this could not hide a series of cuts and wounds on its sides and haunches, the mark of innumerable battles.
Suddenly the stag flinched and swung its head toward the edge of the woods. Its ears pressed forward, its muscles tensed, and it nostrils began to flare, sending out wreaths of vapor that hung in the air. The stag’s huge eyes pierced the thickening twilight, casting restlessly along the shadow of trees. But the scent it had caught on the breeze was lost and the deer’s head returned to its mossy pasture, nosing through the undergrowth, rooting out the juiciest stems.
But there was something in the woods: a single pair of hungry, searching eyes. They were moving rapidly through the twilight, glittering furiously in the shadows as they edged, unseen, through the forest. There was a longing and profound curiosity in those strange, semitransparent orbs, and as the night swelled they became even more aware of the shadow world around them. Those eyes belonged to an intelligent, cunning predator… a wolf.
As the darkness thickened, the wolf’s pace through the trees grew even faster, and her pupils opened wider, seeming to draw in the last of the light. Then she came to a sudden stop at the edge of the woods and peered out across the glen. She spotted the stag, munching happily on the grass, unaware of the wolf.
The wolf drew nearer, mouth watering, she moved silently towards the unsuspecting stag. The fur on the wolf’s back seemed to quiver as she dropped down like a cat and began to edge forward through the grass, scenting the air as though tasting it. Her ears cocked forward, her eyes full of a cunning sly. Her instincts were fully engaged. The wolf was now only feet away. She leaped forward and clamped down into the stag‘s hindquarters. The stag bellowed in rage and kicked her off hard onto the ground.
The wolf stood her ground. Her mouth curled into a snarl, showing brilliant white fangs. The growl that came from her jaws had a killing threat in it, but this did not seem to phase the old stag. He stormed toward the wolf, his antlers aimed at her. She dove out of the way, nearly missing the deadly attack. As she jumped at the stag again, he lowered his antlers and charged at her again. The she-wolf tried to shift her direction away, but she was too late, one of the antler’s tines had pierced her chest. She yelped in pain and collapsed to the ground with a sickening thud. She was in shock. Her was mouth gapped open, she gasped for air, struggled to breath. Her vision was blurring, she stared into the stags large, brown eyes blankly, lost and confused. She was loosing all senses… She blacked out, laying there in a puddle of her own blood…

Well...what do you think? Tell me the truth.
Is it stupid? Do you think I should keep going??
