FROM THE BUILDING #19 AD (in case you don’t know the place, they sell overstocks and stuff from places that had natural disasters at dirt cheap prices and the guy that owns and advertises it is known for being completely shameless)
“WE ARE FORBIDDEN BY THE PUBLISHER TO MENTION ITS FAMOUS NAME!

“A month or so ago, we got a huge shipment from one of the greatest publishers of Children’s books. They sold like hotcakes…and naturally, we tried to get another shipment…and this week, they arrived!

“But this time, we’re not going to make the mistake that we made last time. This time, we won’t mention the publisher’s name.

“WE HAD TO PUBLISH A HUMILIATING RETRACTION:

“The General Council of a very famous Children’s book publisher sent us a letter the other day complaining that we had no right to use her client’s name in our ads…and to give the impression we deal directly with her client.

“As a consequence, the lawyer requested we print a retraction in our next advertising circular.

“…The exact wording of which you see below.

“‘BUILDING #19 IS NOT A CUSTOMER OF PUFFIN BOOKS AND IS NOT AUTHORIZED TO USE THE PUFFIN NAME AND LOGO’”

“The publisher( who’s name we will never mention again, and thanks to the interference of their lawyer) has a deal with the bookstores, who can return books for any reason. When they do this, they are sent to remainder companies with a black line through the closed pages to distinguish them from current front line books. Then the intelligent, charming ones* sell them to us.

“Some books are in 100% perfect condition (except for that line) some are in 99% perfect, some are 98% perfect…in fact, I didn’t see any less than 97% perfect…and are carefully selected by the publishers excellent editors, who’s record in finding prize-winning books is unsurpassed.

“*see how we suck up to our vendors?”

I can’t replicate the sizes with my talent, but the retraction was much bigger than everything else and “Puffin” was bigger than the rest of the retraction, so it caught my eye, and it was so sad, I needed to share. Also, the conspicuous blurring of all Puffin logos on the books pictured helps. All the grammar issues and spacing issues are [sic], so don’t blame me.
