Not a great few days
My dad's been feeling like crap, so I wound up having to cover some of my mom's shifts and then leaving to go to my own work, where I was also covering someone else's shift yesterday, and then today I had one of my episodes.

I can get really bent out of shape about some things, and one of them is shopping. We were going to stop at Dick's to find my sister some shorts for field hockey, which turned into an hour of "What color Puma shirt looks better?" Then at Old Navy, she says to me, "Here, I want one of these, and it's 2 for $25, so you can get one too. This one'll add color to your wardrobe."

Which kind of set it off. And it was a gross overreaction, but it still resulted in 2 hours of total uncooperativeness on my part.

In fact, after getting really worked up because the jeans I wanted to try on wouldn't unzip just minutes after the wardrobe coloration issue, all that I got out of it was new nosepads on my glasses.

And for that, I had to listen to this moronic attendant tell me about his 16 years playing ice hockey, because my sister's field hockey tee moved him to believe that I messed up my glasses playing some sort of hockey.

In actuality, it was a combination of swinging around bassoons indiscriminitely, banging into doorways, and watching TV while leaning my face on armrests, which is far less exciting.

In the end, rather than those suicidal and homocidal urges some people say they have when they get aggravated, I was having something in the order of genocidal urges.

And I still have to finish The Jungle.

Here is a summary of a typical chapter, in an accurate rendering of the stylistic approach:

Jurgis is so very strong! But alas, that his life was not perfect. The immigrants were swindled on all sides, by everyone in Chicago! The meat packing bosses, oh how they cheated men of their pay, of their very lives! But Jurgis is strong, and his family was determined to make it.
