Jeans.
Since school is starting up on Wednesday and she hasn't finished all of her summer reading, my friend called regarding the all-important question, "What are you thinking of wearing on the first day of school?"

She then launched into an elaborate description, going over her color coordination, the two shirt options depending on weather, the pair of sandals to be packed for the same reason, and the upcoming trip to Claire's for earrings to match.

Me, I have all my reading done and will not know what I am wearing until 6:30 on Wednesday morning.

And do you know what the secret to my nonchalance is?

Jeans.

They match everything. They are appropriate for everything. They can be cool and dressy and casual and grungy all at once. They are comfortable unless it is over 86 degrees.

In other words, they are perfect. They are like a miracle elixir, only better, because you can wear them.
