   Oh, Sweet, Merciful Crack...
Estrogen crack, that is.

I've written reviews of Samurai 7 - an instant classic, Gankutsuou - a classic, beautifully retold, and various other sweet little pieces.

I am not going to do a review of Saiyuki. Crack does not need a review to get junkies.

I'd read reviews of the series blasting it as full of holes, overdone, etc, etc. I'd seen the fan-art, done mostly by drooling fan-girls. I figured it wasn't for me.

Then I picked Saiyuki Reload up off the newsgroups when it was in repost. I watched half of them in one night... then spent the rest of the night on Irc, getting the rest.

No one told me it was an irreverent retelling of a Chinese legend. Finding that out just made it funnier.

No review here - just a warning: Saiyuki is Estrogen Crack. Even the Technically Bad Guys go around with no shirts on. And in Reload, Sanzo plays with a kitten while lying in bed...

--ahem--

So, the punchline:

The Problem With Saiyuki and Assorted Bishounen
I'm slow in the morning. I sit, read the paper, drink a cup of coffee, then another cup of coffee, then I get my butt in gear.

I have a white-ish bathrobe, and yes, I wear glasses when I read the paper. So, here I look up and catch my reflection in the window. My hair's sticking up a bit, how the heck did I get that zit in the middle of my forehead at my age...

Ah Crap... I look like Sanzo.

I wonder if he knows he looks like a sleep-deprived, underweight woman? Except he's prettier than me. Dammit.

   To Old Friends...
If along the highroad
I caught hold of your sleeve,
Do not hate me;
Old ways take time to overcome.

If along the highroad
I caught hold of your hand,
Do not be angry with me;
Friendship takes time to overcome.

-- Book of Songs, China
(ca. 1000-600 B.C.)

Sometimes it amazes me how constant the human heart is. 3000 years, and nothing has changed.

It's so cute... and so wrong...
Kout3uka posted a link for me, and that kind of behaviour deserves encouragement.

Shinigami-kun!

It's chibi, it's Duo, it's CLEAN, and it's already translated for you. Want to make this kitty happy? Post links to cute, clean doujinshi. Kittens for everyone!

The Count of Monte Cristo was Cool before Elvis!
Before Elvis was born. Before Elvis' grandmommy was born. In fact, Alexander Dumas made the Count cool before special effects and soundtracks were even a little hallucination in some hashish-chewing mind.

However:

Gonzo Studios (Last Exile etc. etc.) has taken it into their talented hands to make it ... cooler? Certainly more animated, anyway. Tee hee.

That being said, if you're literate, read the book. It's thick, but you can tear it into chunks and call them sequels if it makes you feel better. Pages fly by. A great way to avoid talking to human beings.

If you're not literate, or you've read the book, or you read for a living and want to come home to information fed directly to your brain... It's available free as a fansub, from many good groups, like Ani-Kraze.

It's great. I love it.

   Gosh-darn Bowlderizing Needed.
Here's a brief and well-written treatise on how to write like a complete wanker. It's lovely, well thought out, and practical.

It's also full of words that would get your mouth washed out soap if I caught you saying them. Sorry kids, wait until you can't understand high school English to read it.

That being said, here's another piece of classic English edumacation about the lowly apostrophe. Read it, and be forever changed.

   Aha!
I seem to have found some GWing doujinshi that aren't pr0n!

They're over here!

And a note to all... don't code three sheets to the wind... you need 4 to get proper headway.

Ah, nothing like a nautical allusion to shake up the henhouse!

You happy sailor?

   Gundam Wing Live Action!
Another update on my supposition that Jude Law would make a good Trowa Barton in a live-action GWing...

Check out some hilarious photoshopping of Jude over at Worth1000.

And hey, it's not like he'd have many lines....

Now, where did I leave my NyQuil...?

   It's Alive!!
Finished building my little model of the Blitz Gundam from Gundam SEED... or at least, finished the robot. I still haven't built the weapons, because my dear brother has informed me that he's going to cut it in half and blow it up as soon as I really get attached to it.

That ... had nothing to do with the series... really...

...sorry... T_T

Anyway, I've discovered that whatever Otaku designed this thing took the time to carefully balance its weight distribution. I'm now using it to model poses for human drawings as I can pose it to do pretty much anything, and see where the center of balance is. Using models helps generate more realistic drawings... (I'd post some of my more real stuff, but it's not anime, so I figure I'll spare myself the work of trying to scan 3 ft. canvas.)

Not only can this thing pose realisticly with all of its joints, and balance on two feet, but it can balance on one foot...

... so, I now have a disco-dancing Blitz doing the funky chicken on my computer desk...

Yeah, I'm a freak. I also like checking my Microsoft Hotmail with Mozilla Firefox. Hey, it's not a crime.
