Chapter 10 – Breaking Through

They had driven for hours, most of it in silence before Tsume stopped the truck, and not looking back, said solidly, “Well, this is it” he stopped the engine, and did not move, he seemed to be waiting for something. Kiba waited a second and nodded his head in recognition of what he said, calling to him,

“Well, let’s get this done with”, he slowly got up, his hands at his side, Toboe opening the back, where he leaped out, Richard following him after and then Toboe.

They were outside some kind of castle, it was dark and it was raining ever so slightly, Richard could feel the energy of evil here, he could feel darkness in the air, all around, this was not a good place to be. Walking to the front of the Truck he saw the four Wolves in there Wolf form, talking, Richard walked over to the main door, feeling a nudge at his back, he looked back to see Kiba there, and heard him say, Richard bobbing down so there eyes were level, “Richard, This is going to be dangerous, we need you to help us, try and hold back the guards, we need to reach the upper section of the tower” Richard looked at him, closing his eyes he nodded, was this his destiny? Whatever it was, he would fight.

The others walked towards them, as they stood affront of the door, Hige walking to one side and placing his paw on a console, operating the gates, as they slowly opened, leading to a dark passage. Looking down it, he could feel in there, something evil and dark, something which should not be aloud to live dwelled, it was obvious, and the darkness shook him slightly as he moved a stray hair from his face, he walked in, following behind the Wolves.

Entering a huge entrance hall, Kiba looked back to them, and then shouted out, “Right, this way”, he began to run off, shouting back to Richard, “Take care, make sure we have a clear path” Richard nodded and watched as they disappeared into the darkness, until he could no longer see them, he now was alone, solitude in this darkness. Looking around, he saw nothing but a vast empty space, until again, he heard the voice he knew so well, this time, it was not in his dream, “You have come with the Wolves, I am glad, please, save me, follow my voice” he listened to her, and then said out loud, only audio able if you were near,

“Who are you”, a curious tone was in his voice, he could finally ask that question, but, as he did, he heard nothing more, the voice had disappeared as quickly as it came, but he knew what he had to do, and as if he was possessed by a demon, he walked forward, up towards some spiral stairs, climbing them, slowly, the sounds echoing all around the hall as he slowly ascended them.

He climbed all the way to the top, looking down the floor of the wall was covered in darkness, the only illumination been dimly lit lights at the side of the room, giving only the least illumination they could. He walked through the roof, then, entering a maze of corridors.

He walked through them, still dimly lit by wall lights; it was indeed a palace where the darkness lurked, ready to swallow you whole if you were not careful. Walking along, his footsteps echoing around the halls, going for miles It would seem, rooms on wither side, and corridors branching off, but continuing to go straight forward, like he was been guided. He walked for a long time, going round several corners, and walking past even more doors, until he came to a dead end, with a large door looming ahead of him, looking at him directly, and glaring back at him. He placed his hands on the doors, and whispered some words to himself, and with saying them, the door opened, the locks could be heard clicking from place and removing there hold on the walls, allowing the doors to swing open. He felt a strange power emanate from inside this room, a power of light, the only goodness inside this place. He reverberated with it, slowly walking into the room.

Inside, he came to a sudden realization, he has seen that girl before, and without even knowing what he was doing, as if he was in some kind of trance, he whispered the words, “Cheza, Flower Maiden, It is I, Fragment, let us open Paradise” he didn’t even know what he was saying, it was like he was trapped within his body, someone else doing the talking for him, when he suddenly came back to his feeling, a flash went through his mind, a look of shock covered his face, he remembered everything. He knew what Fragment was, he knew what Paradise was, and where it was, he also knew his duty, but, knowing this only mad him sadder, what a purpose to serve.

Looking up, he saw Cheza, trapped in a green ball, he walked over to the ball, looking up still as he walked, and watched as it descended itself, the green energy disappearing, leaving Cheza, hanging there. He heard a noise from behind, like running, looking back he saw Kiba, running towards him, and it looked like he had a few friends with him, Jagara’s Guards were close behind. He saw that Kiba had been injured, his once White Coat now a darker shade of red, he saw Richard too standing with Cheza, and shouted to him, “MOVE!” Richard did as he asked immediately, standing to the side as Kiba jumped in and grabbed Cheza from the position she was hanging in, Kiba turning and then shouting to Richard, “Now Run” he ran straight back for the guards, dodging between them, avoiding there swords, leaving a shocked Richard, he was now here alone, and it looked like the guards who had filtered there way in were looking for some excitement.

Running over to one of the guards he immediately grabbed one of there swords, that was still inside the sheath on there side, taking out the sword he held it out in front of him, and said out loud, “I will hold them for you Kiba, good luck my friend” he watched the guards move around him, watching as they surrounded him slowly, and a semi-circle around him, moving in, slowly. He watched for them to take the first move, realizing he was heavily out numbered, he said a silent prayer in his head ‘Cheza, Take care of the Wolves, I charge them to you, take care ‘Flower Maiden’ He opened his eyes, and then, struck out to his side, hitting one of the guards, immediately dropping to there knees, a pool of there blood around them.

They all came at him now, there swords raised, he dodged some, blocking most, occasionally hitting them back, slicing along there own swords and taking off there arms, or hitting them in the neck, depending how he was deflected, the blood flew through the room, and the floor quickly began to turn a dark shade of red from the wounds he inflicted, of course not getting away without his own, been hit several times on the arms, and the legs, he knew he was not a fighter, and would only be able to hold out for so long. He fought valiantly, taking on as many of the guards as he could, taking out several, but, not able to take then out fully, they continued to enter the room, attacking, for everyone he killed, two more took there place, there was an endless supply of them.

He dropped his sword, letting it hit the floor, the sound of it been dulled out by the movement of the soldiers, at this point, he knew he was finished, he could no longer fight, he had reached his limits, but knowing that Cheza had been released from his prison, he felt a bit better, only a bit, but he did help them, and that was enough for him, to prove he did have more than a ‘squatters’ life. The Soldiers moved in on him, slowly, taking positions around him, ready to strike, there swords in the air, it was at this point he decided he would take on his final task, he looked to the side of the room, there was a window, as large as the room, looking out into the wastelands, if he was going to go, it would not be at there hands. Slowly standing, he stumbled over to the window, standing a few feet in front of it, the guards moving around him still, trying to encircle him, he simply gave them a half effort salute, turned, and ran through the window, the glass smashing and sending shards all out, some into his face, he could feel them cut him.

He felt the cold, bitter winds around him as he dropped through the air, he could see the building he was in rush by hum, blurring slightly, he could hear her voice to him again, as he closed his eyes, his jacket flapping at his side, he heard her say, “It is not your time yet” he got some comfort from him, but nothing that was said to him would not help, it was too late for him, he was falling, and the snow approached quickly, he felt himself begin to blackout, it all been too much for him, the lights been turned out in his life, as he drifted away.
