Hi, I'm Dan, and I'm from Uruguay
...I honestly don't remember if I posted yesterday or not. And I'm too lazy to go find out before I post thi, so heh..
been back from Rome since yesterday at 3pm. At about 4:30, I slept until about 7. Then I slept again from about 11 til 9am this morning. Other stuff happened, but I can't figure it all out in chronological order just yet. There is only an hour's time difference between here and rome- hence it wasn't Jet lag that made me tired- more the general lack of sleep I had last week..
anyway.. off to bed now. Will update soon.
-Dan from Uruguay
(No, I'm not from Uruguay, and yes, I will explain later..)

OK, an earlier next post than expected..
Just to note that Ben and Helen Askew, the team leaders of the mission to Rome, have blogs which can be found at http://helenaskew.blogspot.com/ and http://benaskew.blogspot.com.
That's it for now, see you in a week

well, not yet. Technically not for another 18 hours or so, from when I'm writing this at the moment- but I'm effectively there seeing as I'm not going to be posting again for another week or so.
So yeah...
see you all in a week and I'll let you know what goes on!

Caffiene Addiction
Ever since being in Sheffield I've drank a lot more tea on a more regular basis.
Earlier today it hit me that maybe I'm just a little bit too attached to it..
I suppose it comes with being English. Gets us all eventually.
No craziness to report today, other than that I'm thinking of joining The Order of Mission.
The Order of Mission (TOM) is a kind of religious order that is based in St Tom's. If you don't know me that well, St Tom's is my home church in Sheffield (go to StToms.net).I moved up to Sheffield about 8 months ago to do Tribal Training- now renamed "Form" (form-uk.org), at St Tom's.
TOM was set up by St Tom's little over a year ago, and has a kind of dual purpose:
1- A network for missionary leaders to draw support from, and a level of commitment beyond that of regular church, or even more spiritual churches, to pursue more of what God has for this country and the world.
2- The fact that it is a religious order appeals to "High Church" (think traditional) leaders, which have most of the authority on whether or not it gets going.
Despite the fact that it's a religious order though, doesn't inhibit the spirit. In fact it allows members to be far more disciplined, while at the same time the those within the order are called to a spiritual (not just rule-based) life.
So yeah.. it actually looks interesting to me.

Non-audio post of the day
Things are going pretty well at the moment...
in an "ish" kind of way..
been having that "ish" feeling all day. It's kind of unshakable, and gets in the way of a lot of things. I find it harder to pray, or even to sense God at all.
No doubt I can easily overcome it, but at the moment it's late and I just want to sleep right now..
Yesterday was quite a fun day. I went into Safeway to do some shopping, and on my way out a very drunk, old guy came into the queue for the same till as me.
He was buying 4 cans of beer and a cheese baguette. Or, that was his plan, but the kid at the till (the "kid"... I feel all old saying that, but seriously, he was a fair bit younger than me..) made a fairly wise move and didn't let him buy the beer. "You've had enough already" he said.
I was just leaving as stuff started to "kick off" (nothing really "kicked off" as such- but a security guard came to take him away from the store), and then lo and behold, Martin Horton, a fellow TT, was coming in to Safeway.
Coincedence? Maybe. Who cares, I sure as hell didn't.. I told Martin about the drunk guy, he suggested that we do some "ministry" (in a joking way), I said that that's exactly what I was thinking, and we went in to see what was going on.
As we went in, whatever was happening at the till came to a conclusion and the guard started taking him to the exit. The two of them passed by me and Martin, the drunk recognised me and said something akin to "This fellow here is alright, I ain't done him no harm and he knows it" but in a drunken Yorkshire accent (by far and away the least coherent thing I've heard in a while).
The security guard wasn't getting anywhere with trying to get the guy out, so Martin and I offered to take him away out of the store, and he didn't seem too opposed to the idea - I think maybe he thought we were going to beat him up - and so there was Martin, this drunk guy, and myself, walking out of Safeway.
Martin and I talked to him a bit about him, and naturally it wasn't too long before we offered to pray for him in the middle of the car park. He was quite opposed to the idea. Whenever we asked him why, he gave some dodgy reasoning that I can't remember, and always summarised with the point "So don't EVER call me a CUNT!" That's probably the part of the encounter I understood least.
He also said that he could have us both down on the floor, and that he wasn't a soft nut and could beat the Devil.
But funnily enough, despite his occasional anger he actually seemed to quite like us.
After a while, his taxi came (which Martin had called for him) and we just had to leave him be from that point. He gave us the drunken equivalent of a thumbs up (kind of like a fist, but friendly) as the taxi drove away, and then we prayed for him out loud- right outside the entrance/exit to Safeway.
It was one of those experiences that you look back on and think "what was I doing???". But at the time it was all too weird to really care.

Sara: Sample of an actual Yorkshire accent :p
Nicco Testimony (from a while back)
Here's what Nicco is saying (written in Yorkshire English too, not translated into normal English :p):
And I got on (the) Tram in (the) morning, and I were reading (the) Metro and I just thought 'I feel rubbish' I feel this is.. you know.. this is awful! err, and I opened (the) newspaper and there was like an article about hundreds of iraqis had been made homeless cos of the bombing what's just happened recently.
And I said to God, I said 'look, I'm not testing you but I wanna lay a fleece down in front of you. If my calling is to work with homeless people, I pray that there'd be an article in the Metro about homelessness apart from like this one here.'
So I'm looking through it and God said to me as I'm about to turn the page, 'your article's going to be on (the) next page.' Yeah, yeah... Turned it over, Aye.. not there, knew it, God! And then something caught my attention in the "In Brief" bit, a little paragraph said 'can someone please'-- it were a letter saying 'can someone please explain to me the signs what I've seen in London saying erm.. no begging, penalty £200' and there was like a little picture of a homeless person begging.
And God said "is that good enough for you?".. I'm like.. "NO"
Notes:
1- "The Metro" is a free newspaper that can be found on Trams, buses and trains all about Sheffield.
2- The bits where you see a "the" in brackets, Nick didn't actually say "the", however there is some noise descirbe as a "swallowed T" which replaces it. It's hard to hear until you've been in Yorkshire for a while though.
3- Nick's "this feels awful" comment was in reference to his lack of a job at the time, and his general crap-feeling-ness, which he talked about a bit before he got to this snippet.

Hear Nicco Ramble!! Hear the TTs Chant!!!!
This is an mp3 of one of Nicco's little messages to me on the TT Minidisc (I have responsibility over transferring from minidisc to PC- he is responsible for the recording side..), in which he rambles on to another TT (not figured out who yet..) about beavers and dams.
And then, all of TT bursts out into a rendition of "Happy Birthday" in Monastic Style.
Enjoy

How could I forget???!?
Forgot to add this in the last post-
Today I got £50 towards the Rome mission trip on Saturday (there for a week). Need another £275 :p.
But whatever I don't recieve through donations like that, I can pay for out of my ISA, so it's not such a big deal if this £50 is all I get. Even a fraction of what I need helps, right? Yes it does.
The most important thing to be thankful for is that money came in towards the mission trip. Amen :p
