"Black Or White"

I Took My Baby
On A Saturday Bang
Boy Is That Girl With You
Yes We're One And The Same

Now I Believe In Miracles
And A Miracle
Has Happened Tonight

But, If
You're Thinkin'
About My Baby
It Don't Matter If You're
Black Or White

They Print My Message
In The Saturday Sun
I Had To Tell Them
I Ain't Second To None

And I Told About Equality
An It's True
Either You're Wrong
Or You're Right

But, If
You're Thinkin'
About My Baby
It Don't Matter If You're
Black Or White

I Am Tired Of This Devil
I Am Tired Of This Stuff
I Am Tired Of This Business
Sew When The
Going Gets Rough
I Ain't Scared Of
Your Brother
I Ain't Scared Of No Sheets
I Ain't Scare Of Nobody
Girl When The
Goin' Gets Mean

[Rap Performance]
Protection
For Gangs, Clubs
And Nations
Causing Grief In
Human Relations
It's A Turf War
On A Global Scale
I'd Rather Hear Both Sides
Of The Tale
See, It's Not About Races
Just Places
Faces
Where Your Blood
Comes From
Is Where Your Space Is
I've Seen The Bright
Get Duller
I'm Not Going To Spend
My Life Being A Color

[back to song]
Don't Tell Me You Agree With Me
When I Saw You Kicking Dirt In My Eye

But, If
You're Thinkin' About My Baby
It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White

I Said If
You're Thinkin' Of
Being My Baby
It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White

I Said If
You're Thinkin' Of
Being My Brother
It Don't Matter If You're
Black Or White

Ooh, Ooh
Yea, Yea, Yea Now
Ooh, Ooh
Yea, Yea, Yea Now

It's Black, It's White
It's Tough For You
To Get By
It's Black , It's White, Whoo

It's Black, It's White
It's Tough For You
To Get By
It's Black , It's White, Whoo

CHAPTER 7: THE ACCIDENT…

It was coming towards the end of summer. We had a week left. We had had a wonderful summer together, but it was soon time for Kida to return for her second semester of her final year at high school. And I still had to decide whether to take up the Chief on his offer. I didn’t have long to decide.
I was mulling over this fact during breakfast. Kida was still dozing in the guestroom and Cain had already left for work. I rubbed the scars where my eyes had been. For some reason I was really depressed this morning. Perhaps it was something to do with the fact that it was all coming to an end.
Suddenly the door creaked open and Kida padded into the room. As she got close, our bond connected and I could see myself sitting cross-legged on the floor, eating breakfast. I automatically felt a little better, as I always do whenever the symbiosis between Kida and I was active.
“Morning…” Kida stifled a yawn.
“What ever happened to getting up early?”
“Hmm? Oh, I figured, cuz its summer…”
“That’s a bad habit to get into y’know.”
“ Whatever…” Kida went over to the mirror to examine herself. Even with bed hair and dishevelled appearance, she still looked radiant.
There was a knock on the door and Kida went to answer it.
I sat in the darkness briefly, shoving my personal problems on the back burner. When Kida returned, I could see she was holding a package. It was the package you get when you order photographs.
“What’cha got there?”
“It’s the film I used up when we were at Yokosuka.”
I tried to remember what she had taken a picture of when she got a photo out and looked at it so we could both see.
In the picture Kida had her arms thrown round my shoulder enthusiastically with the biggest ever smile on her face, whilst I was facing slightly away from the camera with a slight smile on my face.
I remembered when she had taken that photo. I smiled as the memory returned.
“Aww. That’s a really nice photo of you.”
“And you. You look really happy.”
“Its because you where there with me.”
We shared a small kiss, and then Kida went and took control of the bathroom.
I help the picture in my hands, trying to draw strength from it. Although I couldn’t see it without Kida’s eyes, I had the mental image in my head and that was precious. Especially if…
“Stop it.” I told myself. “Worry about that later.”
I was still sitting there when Kida came out of the bathroom. As our symbiosis turned on again, Kida was in front of a mirror. I could see myself in the background, but the image of Kida was enough to distract my mind from that.
She was wearing a dress, a new one. It was white and it started at her chest and flowed down to her shins. She was wearing new shoes as well and her hair was done up so that half of it fell across her face and the other half was done up behind her head to fall loosely across her back.
“Do you like?”
“Well, well. What’s the occasion?”
“You and I are going on a date. Now.”
“Um…really?”
“Yes. Its all been arranged. I had Cain help me out for some of it. We’re going to the Akamatsu Restaurant in Goto for lunch.”
“You’re kidding me right? That’s the most expensive restaurant in Goto.”
“It’s my treat. You’ve looked after me so much whilst I’ve been here. And I have to go back to school soon, so we won’t see each other regularly. So lets make some memories to take with us, huh?”
I smiled. “Sure.”
Kida smiled back. “Great. Go and put something decent on. The car is picking us up at midday.”
I froze. “Car?”
“Yeah. It’s too far to walk and I didn’t want to get the train. Its part of my treat. Just the two of us. And the driver, of course.”
“Did um, did Cain arrange this?”
“No. I did this part by myself.”
“Oh. Okay.” I paused. “Are you sure, cuz I don’t you going too extravagant on me…”
“It’s fine, really. Go on, hurry up.”
I sighed and went to find a shirt. “It’ll be fine.” I told myself. “Don’t blame her, she doesn’t know. You can do this.”
But I was shaking as I closed my door.

Noon came all to quickly for me. The car pulled up outside.
“Its here, lets go!” Kida sounded so happy that I felt guilty about objecting. I put if off. And got in the car.
“Its fine.” I told myself. “See. No problems. Nothing wrong. It’s not like every car does it. It was an accident. One time thing. Yeah. No problems. Im cool.”
“Isn’t this exciting?”
“Yeah.” I forced a smile, but I could feel my hand shaking. I clenched it, then put on my seat belt. The car pulled off smoothly and onto the road that led out of Shinoi. The car picked up speed but it was still riding smoothly.
“Hey, this isn’t so bad. I think I can do this.”
“Y’know, Seraph.”
“What?” I kept my voice low, so as not to confuse the driver.
“When I mentioned the trip, you seemed a bit reluctant at first. But now you seem to be enjoying it.” She grabbed my hand and squeezed it. “Im glad Im getting this time to spend with you.”
This made me both happy and sad. If I was going to tell Kida, it had to be now.
“Kida…”
Suddenly the car swerved and the driver yelled out.
“HEY, WATCH WHAT YOU’RE DOING! FOOL! ALMOST HIT US!”
Suddenly a memory I was desperately trying to keep chained up broke loose and surfaced in my conscious mind. I started shaking.
“Seraph? What’s wrong?”
“Sorry bout that folks.” The driver was saying, but his voice was faint. All I could hear were cutting saws and ambulance sirens. And my own heart beat louder and louder.
“Stop the car.”
“What?”
“STOP THE GOD-DAMNED CAR!”
The driver, to his credit, pulled over and stopped. I wrenched open the door and got out. I stumbled across the side of the road, fell on my knees and threw up.
“Seraph?”
A hand was placed on my shoulder. I whirled round.
“DON’T TOUCH ME!”
I started then. I was looking at myself, stressed and agitated. It was enough to make me pause.
I swallowed. “Sorry Kida. But I can’t do this.”
I extended my stick and headed off back to Shinoi.

Oooh. its getting exciting, nich? Trust me folks, its gonna get worse before it gets better...
