Tears of the martyr
Gyah! I know I just posted, but that one came from a lack of sleep and caffein overdose, so now I'm writing another in my 'normal' style. I doubt very much the other one will be read.

Full Metal Alchemist's final episode was aired on Adult Swim last night. I knew I would love it as soon as they posted a second disclaimer, telling the viewer it contained more than its share of explicit violence.

I cried. Not bawling, not from saddness. But the ending of the series was so beutiful, so well done, that I shed a few tears. As you may guess, my expectations for the movie are high. And I know the writers and animaters are up to the challenge of ending this awsome saga.

I watch a lot of anime, as you may be able to guess. I also spend much of my time reading excellent books. But never before FMA have I felt so attached to characters. Never before have I seen the last episode of an anime and not been filled with a vague disappointment. Not because of a flaw in the writing, but because I've always wanted more. The end has just never seemed to be enough. But not so with last night episode. As far as endings go, it left a lot undiscussed and unfinished. But it also tapped so much emotion that it didn't need to say everything. You knew. It is as simple as that. It wasn't needlessly depressing, but rather expressed what the entire series had been trying to say. Al's monolog at the end, about equivalent exchange, was perhaps some of the greatest philosophy presented in ANY context.

Be excellent to each other. -Hammer out-
