Okay, here we go people, sorry it's so late.
The Falling Star
Again he waited, another night watching the cloudless, starry sky. When? he wondered. When would the star fall, and Far Kingdom be returned to its former glory?
Slowly, Jayson arose from his place on the hill where he lived, and padded his way down towards the village not too far off, the grey dust of the planet rising in small clouds. He groaned slightly as grit snuck between his toes through the holes in his cloth shoes. It was a bother, but he didn't really mind. There were many more important things to worry about, such as convincing what was left of the people, this small village, about the star's coming.
Clutching the book he always carried with him even more tightly, Jayson quickened his pace. The worn cover of the book glimmered with a hint of gold in the dim light.
As he walked, Jayson remembered stargazing upon that hill with his mother when he was young. They had lived there to escape the mists that cover the valleys and plains of the planet. He remembered her gentle, soothing voice as she pored over that ancient text's crumbling pages with him, teaching him the sounds and letters all that time ago. Finally, he thought of the history as well as the hopeful message it provided for Far Kingdom. What was left of it anyways, he thought bitterly for a moment. Far Kingdom was once, his mother had told him, a beautiful, prosperous place, filled with peace and learning. But now the kingdom was in ruins. The great buildings were demolished, waste and filth lining their alleyways. The people were impoverished and cold, having little to eat and even less good clothing. They did not even have weapons to try to defend themselves from the continuously hunting Magnacrids. Lost in thought, Jayson continued hurrying down, missing the violet-red streak that hurled itself through the sky.
