A poem I made for the 5th anniversary of September 11
A Foolish Dream

I saw it on the news…
everybody did.
I saw the planes,
the explosions,
the fear.
I saw the clouds of dust
and debris
and ash.
People, ordinary people,
jumping…
forever etched in my mind.
The angered,
awful, terrifying screams…
Everything repeated and repeated
and repeated.
And still,
my eyes stayed glued to the screen.
I watched the same scenes and
heard the same sayings as if it was some sick
morbid fascination.
Slowly,
I stopped watching the news.
The fighting, the tragedy…
I wanted to be oblivious.
Ignorance is a bliss.
I thought that,
if I didn’t know what was happening,
everything would be okay.
But…
it wasn’t.
People kept on fighting
and dying…
and my little haven seemed no more.
Now,
all I wish is for peace…
a foolish dream that may
never come true.
