AniMatrix?
Well, I saw the Animatrix, and I've got mixed feelings. (Such feelings should be expected coming from an anthology.)
On the whole, it was okay, but I think it was hurt by the really, really lame introductory films, Final Flight of the Osiris, and the Second Renissance I & II.
FFotO had all the plot of a Pringles commercial, and, although the CGI was good, it wasn't like we have'nt seen this level of skill before. (Final Fantasy: Spirit Within).
SR I&II was a mess, in my opinion. It was graphic for graphic's sake, and the early plot made no sense. It was also pretensious with it's refereces to historical events. Comparing the UN to Nazis wasn't really tasteful either. (Dark Sky was referred to as 'The Final Solution'.)
After those disappointments, things looked up. A Kid's Story was pretty good, as was Program; loved the ending on that one. My favorite of the lot was the film noir style detective story, followed closely by World Record.
Anyway, you might as well see it if you haven't. It's pretty good, and the animation is excellent.
(The other movie I saw this weekend, Timeline, sucked. Stay away!)
Anyway, today, while working on my Astronomy homework, I learned a lot about black holes. They're fascinating, and I'd like to share some of this with you.
First, a black hole is created by the gravity collapse of a nuetron star, a star that's gotten so massive it falls in upon itself. It's got a huge amount of mass, but it's so super-compressed that it creates a well of gravity that attracts anything that passes it to its core, even light.
The black hole is surrounded by an area called the event horizon, kind of like it's sphere of influence. Anything inside the event horizon will be pulled ('pulled', not 'sucked') into the black hole. The center of a black hole is actually a physical object of unimaginable density and mass.
It gets cooler, too: black holes are actually getting larger all the time. Because it pulls light particles into its center, the hole is expanding, slowly but surely. As the black hole's core increases in size and mass, so does the radius of the event horizon.
Now, here's where it gets wonky: We can't actually observe a black hole. We can't see it, because it attracts the light. We can't detect it, because it sucks up all radio and electromagnetic waves.
In fact, the only way we know about the black holes is *because of* the fact that we can't see or detect it. We detect 'blank spots' in space, and that is theorized to be where the black hole is.
What this means is that there's no actual observational evidence for the black hole, so everything we know about its properties is the result of mathmatical computations and quantom physics.
This creates a problem, because mathmatics doesn't completely correlate to the real world, at least not in the way we view it.
See, here's the thing: the black hole scientific model predicts that a black hole's core collapses on itself as it gains more mass. Eventually, it would become so dense that it would transform into a singularity.
A sigularity is a single point in space. What's that mean? We don't know.
See, in geometry (which I despise, BTW), a 'point' is a single spot on a plane. However...that doesn't mean anything, not literally. Geometrically, a 'line' is a connection of points that continues for infinity, so, again, it's not exactly easy to understand.
So, eventually, a black hole becomes a singularity, except we don't know what a singularity is. There's only one (other) problem with that scenario: it's physically impossible.
See, for the black hole to become a singularity, the core's size would have to reduce to a size smaller than that of a single electron. That's impossible, but that's what the math says would need to happen.
So, you see why this is confusing. This is what we apparently call a "breakdown of a theory".
Just one more correlation, then I'm out. All right, there's a school of thought that's widely adopted, that says that matter and energy are niether created nor destroyed. All the molecules in your body are hand-me-downs, and you might be sharing them with a rock, or a dinosaur, or Elvis.
However, because all matter can become energy on the sub-atomic level, all matter can also become light. Light travels the universe at the highest speed known to man.
Light also gets sucked into black holes.
Do you see where I'm going with this? Matter --> light --> Black hole --> Singulatrity (?)
One of the things a singularity is theorized to be is simple noexistance. (Thus, a fluke in the 'materr can't be destroyed' rule).
So, assuming (BIG assumptions) that all these theories are correct, all matter in the universe will eventually cease to exist.
Cool, huh?
Yeah, but don't take my rambling too seriously; this is just after weeek's worth of lectures in what's been, until now, a pretty pedestrian class. I'm really into this stuff, though. If you ever get a chance to read an article or watch a TV show about black holes, you should; they're fascinating. ^__^
Thought of the moment: After tomorrow, I'll be prepped for Prom.

Well now
After a late night of RP'ing, I'm kinda' tired. Still gots me some homework to do, though. It'll be a quiet, uneventful homework-type day. ^__^
I'm just gonna' list off a few things for your benefit...or...whatever. Anyway, first up: the Prom Countdown! There are exactly 6 days remaining until Prom. wh00t.
Second, I recorded the AniMatrix last night, but haven't watched it yet. Hope it's good and stuff. Eh.
Third, I've fakllen in love with the phrase "Vast right-wing conspiracy". I've decided to place it in front of everything I do. ^^; (It's a vast right wing comnspiracy to sound cool.)
Third, I need to save my pennies something fierce. When I went to the comic store, I saw not one, not two, but Three paperback books I desperatly want. First, Countdown, which, okay, I knew was out already. It'll be around for a while. Second, the Death of Captain Stacy...didn't know that was out yet, but it'll be out for a while, too.
Third, and most surprising, was the Saga of the Alien Costume. I don't know where the shop got it from, but it's 80's Spider-Man; my favorite era. It's been out of print since the early nineties. Must get...must buy!
I saw the conclusion of the Virtual World arc on Yu-Gi-Oh yesterday. Eh. It kind of stopped making what little sense it did last week. First: What in the heck did Noa actually do to himself and his father? I'm not sure I care to know. Second, since when does the Kaiba Corp blimp become a concord jet? And why didn't Yami Marik kill Odion? I mean, that's what he was planning to do for a while now, and poor Odion was all alone...
But my biggest question: how in the hell did Gozoburo go from being a corrupted computer program to a spout of flames from an explosion? I mean, really, WTF? This has got to be one of the lamest episodes of Yu-Gi-Ogh! ever. (And, even though I like the show, I have no problem telling you that some of the episodes have rated pretty high on the Lame List.)
Also, I've decided to retire my current banner/avie set, "Vehicular Homicide". I should have a new set up by tonight.
There's probably other stuff I want to say, but I can't remember it.
Thought of the moment: "Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends"....sucks.

Comics!!! *Drools*
Todays involves a frog and a five hundred dollar check.
Really, it does.
My Grandma sent me a graduation gift of $500. You should have seen my jaw drop when I opened the envelope. "Is there an extra zero on this ammount?"
Well, after a recovery, I already decided what I'm going to use the cash on: fixing up my car, and finally getting a CD player installed. Sweetness, no?
Anyway, I went to take a shower today, and, wonder of wonders, there was a frog in my bathroom. This was a good-sized amphibian, too; about three inches long.
Well, I gott he lil' critter out of the house, but my next question was: how in the hell did he get there in the first place? I mean, my room is on the second floor. Jeez...
Anyway, I got tons of comics today. ^__^ Most of them, you really wouldn't care about. However, I'm going to recommend two items in particular, today.
Marvel Knights: Spider-Man: First off, it's a brand-new series, which makes it easy to jump into. Second, the art is beautiful. It's also written by a popular scribe, Mark millar. I've been torn on his work so far, but the first issue is pretty swell.
Seems one of Spider-Man's enemies has found out his secret ID, and has started striking at Peter in nasty ways. (Smashing Uncle Ben's tombstone, for example.)
The only thing I didn't like about this issue was the fight with the Green Goblin. Im' sorry, but the Goblin is Spider-Man's greatest enemy. He should *not* be beaten in eight pages. And it *certainly* shouldn't have been done after the conclusion of the last Goblin arc, "A DEath in the Family". Sheesh.
But, hey, you guys don't really care. If anyone is interested in picking up a Spider-Man book, this might be good for you. ^__^
But wait, there's more!
Spider-Girl Digest vol. 1: Legacy: For the price of a mere Shonen Jump novel, you can read the (color) adventures of Spider-Man's daughter in the future. Cool, no? It's a great value, and worth picking up, even if you don't know anything about Spider-Man.
Well, I'm done for now. Smallville and Angel are on, and they're new. Yay!
Thought of the moment: I don't care what anyone says, Ishizu is the hottest girl on Yu-Gi-Oh.

A Jacknife to a DeathBug
Note to Rayne: I fixed the link to my AOL name; it should work now.
Nothing new to say, today. I just wanted to check in and say 'Hi'.
Thought of the moment: For some reason, I wanna' argue with someone....

Shake it like a poleroid!
Wow. I got the most responses ever for a myOtaku post with that funky little quiz thing. Mad props to Stephanie. I should do stuff like that more often.
You haven't seen me in the past few days because I've been busy, and my being busy has resulted in me being really tired. Tired DeathBug= Silent DeathBug, which I believe was one of Einstien's lesser-known theorems.
Thursday, I did reasearch online during Mr. Pelzer's class to find a good post-Prom resteraunt. I'vedecided on Bonefish Grill, because she likes seafood.
(When I initially asked her what she wanted, she said that anything was fine. However, I've known girls long enough not to fall into *that* trap, so I pressed until she said seafod.)
So, Friday I got my tuxedo picked out. Now, all I need is to get my car washed and order a corsage ('Corsage'? The littlte flower wristband thing). Everyone I know is making Prom way too complicated.
Granted, I might not have the right to talk, after what I did. I decided yesterday to drive out to where Prom is being held, so I know where to go later. Seems easy enough, right?
I got lost three times. I eventually found the place, though. It wasn't the fault of thje mp I got lost, either. All me. What a perfect way to spend a morning, eh?
Anywho, I'm not going to the comic store until Wednesday, and boy will I have a haul. Lessee...
Spectacular Spider-Man 12 and 13

If I had words to make a day for you...
For some odd reason, I can't get the lyrics to the Babe song out of my head, which is especially odd considering I only know one verse. Huh.
Oh, and yeah, I have a Prom Date (TM). ^_____^
That is all. Oh...wait, no it's not...
My main man Ernesto is coming back to class tomorrow. He didn't plan to until I told him we had a four-day weekend. He figured he might as well put in the face time.
I need to go to the comic shop, because they're holding about six or seven books for me. I haven't been able to go there or post on OB very much lately, simply because Iv'e been very busy. After AP exams, I should have more time. I'll also start adding to SOL again. ^__^ (Bandit wants to know what happened to Tybalt...)
I told Stephanine I would post this quiz on my site in case anyone wanted to answer it. It's a bit odd for aq uiz, but, whatever. ^__^
1. Give me a nickname and explain why you picked it.
2. Am I lovable?
3. How long have you known me?
4. When and how did we first meet?
5. What was your first impression?
6. Do you still think that way about me now?
7. What do you think my weakness is?
8. Do you think I'll get married?
9. What makes me happy?
10. What makes me sad?
11. What reminds you of me?
12. If you could give me anything what would it be?
13. How well do you know me?
14. When's the last time you saw me?
15. Ever wanted to tell me something but couldn't?
16. Do you think I could kill someone?
17. Describe me in one word.
18. Do you think our friendship is getting stronger/weaker/or staying the same?
19. Do you feel that you could talk to me about anything and I would listen?
20. Would you ever want to kiss me?
21. Are you going to put this on your LJ and see what I say about you?
Thought of the moment: I wonder if "Cable/Deadpool" will be any good...

You run around, I run around
Today was interesting, to say the least. Nothing particularly bad happened, but there were a few odd moments here and there.
I decided that tomorrow is P-Day; Im' going to ask one more girl to Prom, and if she says "No", I'm just going stag. On the plus side, if I have no date, I'm stopping at Taco Bell in my formal wear. Why? Just to be the guy who went to Taco Bell in a tux.
I'm going to meet with folks at HCC tomorrow afternoon and pick out my classes for next semester. That's good; better now than later. I want priority seating.
Today, I was dropping my friend Kelly off at her house. Kelly lives in a gated neighborhood, and the oddest thing happened: the exit gate wouldn't open. I was stuck.
I drove up to it, backed up, drove up again, kicked the damn thing...nada. I finally got out when a resident had to leave and opened the other gate. Like I said earlier...odd...
I saw "Danny Phantom" priemere on Nickelodeon. It's by the same folks who gave us the excellent "Fairly Oddparents", so I gave it a shot.
I was a bit disappointed. The premise is good, and Danny's powers and origin are cool, but the actual execution left a loyt to be desired. This Friday, they're showing two new episodes back-to-back. I'll watch that, and if they don't improve, I'll write the show off.
Here's hoping. ^__^
Ryo-Tas, if you're reading this, your e-mail address isn't working. Send me a line with your new one, 'kay? ^__^

An American DeathBug in London
Wow, this weekend was good, and I didn't even do anything fun. It was one of those weekends where you do a lot of work, but you feel good because you got a lot accomplished. I did all my homework, did all my chores and then some, and got to go to the gym both days.
You know how people say that if you exercise, you'll feel better in general? It's true. I stopped going into the gym around the holidays, simply because I got out of the habit. I forced myself to go all this week, and I feel better, more alert, and have more energy. Nothing has actually changed, but I feel better. That's neat.
I got the new issue of Shonen Jump in the mail, and will regail you with my opinions. Just be warned, there are plenty of spoilers.
Prince of Tenneis: The preview for this mag seemed pretty sterotypical, actually. I know it's pretty popular, but I just didn't feel it. Maybe the actual book will be better, but I won't have the cash to buy it.
One Piece is just getting wierd. I'm not feeling it. It's too off-the-wall for my tastes; seems like the kinda' thing I wrote when I was ten. It's okay, but not great by any means.
Dragonball Z was actually interesting, because Cell completed himself. I also laughed at the little scene between Trunks and Vegeta. "You don't have the stomach to attack your own father!" *BooM* Guess he does...
Naruto was dissappointing this month. The whole conclusion was anti-climatic. Zanbu was half-dead anyway, and, after all he did, we're supposed to feel sorry for him? Naw. Well, at least this arc is over; it dragged on a bit long. I'm looking forward to the new arc next month.
Yu-Gi-Oh was a mixed bag this month. The story with Joey on TV sucked. It really did. Now redeeming value whatsoever.
The story with the monster fighters was much more interesting. It became a sinister Shadow Game very quickly, one of those times you're shocked a bit by Yami Yugi's ruthlessness. I love those times.
Shaman King was good, as it consistantly is. The conclusion to Yoh's showdown with Silva was predictable, but it looked good while being predictable. The Totem Cannon thing still looks odd, but, whatever. Ana's monologue was also nice, and a little touching. Her ruthless attack on Yoh was equally touching, kinda'.
Ren's a psycho; does that surprise anyone? And next month, Yoh vs. Horohoro. Yay!
Well, Saturday, while I was in Wal-Mart, I saw something that turned my head: Skywarp. Skywarp is a Decepticon repaint of Jetstorm, my favorite TF toy of all time. His purple/black color scheme was way cooler that Jetstorm's colors, so you know I had to have him.
Solo, if you see this guy, get him. He's that cool.
I've decided to prove what a Yu-Gi-Oh geek I am by calling how each character will get out of theie horrible perril they're left in at the end of each eppie.
So, how would I destroy Exodia Necross, using Kaiba's deck?
Well, the obvious answer is to draw Monster REborn, and remove one of the Exodia pieces from the graveyard. Depending on which other cards I had, I could destroy EXN with Cyber Jar, Destruction Ring, Dark Hole, etc.
However, Monster Reborn is one card out of forty, so I'll need a back-up plan. What I see Kaiba doing is not destroying Exodia, but incapacitating him, perhaps with Shadow Spell or the like. All he has to do is stall the beast while building up his army of monsters. His DD DRagon would be good in this case, since it can't be destroyed.
Let's wait till next week and see how I called it. ^__^
Finally, I've decided to be more focused with my avatars and banners. So, each month, I'll have a theme. April is Vehicon month!
Thought of the moment: I must buy prom tickets.

Revelation
Check the date on yesterday's post. Yep, it's completely fictitious. April Fool's.
(Sorry if I worried anyone.) ^^;
Also, what happened good yesterday that wasn't a joke is that my friend Ernesto's leg surgery was completely problem-free, and he's fine.
