I love Responses
Since everyone took all this time to respond to my post yesterday, I'll just address the points seperatly.
Steph-
"So Hollywood has been "glorifying pedophilia" for a while now. It's the same, except this time it's a grown woman and a little boy."
Wow, I'd never even heard of that; I'm not a film afficienado. That only disturbs me more.
"I must say, Lolita is my favorite book."
So, is the Lolita-complex named after the book, or is the book named after the complex?
"And about the Republican thing, I think that the reason they made them right wing was not to show the Republicans in a bad light, but typically, right wing ideals represent the more traditional America."
That might be, but I doubt it;there was really no point to ghaving that in the movie. It didn't advance the plot at all; it was just a jab.
Or maybe I'm just overly-paranoid since the Repuiblican scene in Devil's Advocate.
"Which is not true at all, and it makes it seem like “happy homemaker” means that they don’t have another thought in their head."
Again, Hollywood's odd disdain for suburban life. Again, remember "American Beauty".
"Look what you’ve done! You made me think."
Sorry. ^^;
"But in case you couldn’t tell I agreed with you."
Understtod; ^__^ BTW, didja' get your birthday card? Didja', didja', didja'?
Nataku-
"i think that the role of women has changed drastically in society over the past fort or so years...from homemaker to free independent women..."
The trend in most Hollywood movies is to ridicule womemn who make the choice to focus on the family. "American Beauty", "Raising Helen", "Stepford Wives"...
It seems that Hollyweird doesn't understand that real feminism is about choice, the choice to be independent or to focus on the family. Those who focus on the family are, more often than not, made to look simple or foolish.
Bandit Joeykuba:
"The Stepford Wives is a remake of a 1975 movie by the same name. "
Yeah, I knew that; it wasn't really relevent, so I didn't bring it up.
"Actually, they've done it. The Stepford Husbands."
Hmmm...interesting.
"They've also done one with children, so is that ageist?"
No; children aren't a poltically-correct protected group, and therefore can't be discriminated against.
Kitsune:
"Well, I thank you for your rant. It's nice to see other people venting their spleens once in a while."
Spleen? Ouch.
Thought of the moment: I should rant more often.
Quote of the moment: "This does look serious. And where there is serious, I show up in my red and blue underwear. Why? Well, clearly I have emotional problems." -Spider-Man, "Carnage, part 1"
