I do my "I Love Comics" jig
Well, two things up today. First, I got the new Shonen Jump, so here's my thoughts. Warning: Spoilers!!

Hikaru No Go: Well well well...seems it's time for a rematch between Hikaru and Akira...the big question is, will Si pull any punches this time? I hope not; I'd like to see him go all-out.

This manga continues to be the new surprise of the season. I'm still a bit amazed that something so seemingly bland could be such a fascinating read.

Yu Yu Hakusho: Well...Rando went down a wee bit too fast, in my taste. Seemed like everything was just sped up for the Saint Beast saga. Oh well. At least I've come to an important decision: Kuwabara's my favorite.

DBZ: This whole section seemed like a warm-up to get Vegeta to fight Cell, which is fine, but the fight had better be worth the wait.

Naruto: Nice. Niiiice. Naruto got all fox-demon on Haku's ass. Kind of an anti-climax, though. Sure, I didn't expect Naruto to kill him, but neither did I expect Haku to just give up. Haku's kind of a wuss.

It also seems like Zanbu's gone to the dogs. ^__^ I ca'nt wait for Kakashi to really open up a can on him. Kakashi pwns.

One Piece:..........I was cool with this whole issue 'til the Meowban Brothers showed up. Oh God, that's lame. ><

Yu-Gi-Oh: Nice, a whole issue of duelin' action. ^__^ The best part, IMO, was Yugi's first use of the Dark Magician. Sure, he's drawn a little funkily, but it's still him.

Gee, wonder how Yugi'll get out of this mess? ;)

Shaman King: I have a slight problem with this issue, but it's minor. It seems like a side effect of being possessed by Tokagero was a partial lobotemy for Ryu. Don't get me wrong, I get the reason for the shift in his character, but it happened a wee bit too fast.

Anyway, nice transition piece, with peeks at a lot of new chars, and setting the stage for...hopefully, more action. ^__^

Oh, and Ryu really needs to wear his hair down.

Now....I recently bought and read the *very* entertaining mini-series of the early ninties, "Deadly Foes of Spider-Man". It's about a group of super-villian called the Sinister Sydicate. Lead by the Beetle, they are: Rhino, Hydro-Man, Boomerang and Speed Demon. Special guest appearance by the Shocker and the Kingpin.

Basically, this series follows the activities and eventual disbandment of the Syndicate, and gives you the villian's eye view of things.

First, a bit of background: prior to this series, a violent psychopath known as the "Scourage of the Underworld" started killing off supervillians. He was aprehended before finishing off the Shocker, and this caused Shocky to suffer a bit of a breakdown. Part of this series ivolves his regaining of (most of) his self-confidence.

In their first outing, the Syndicate runs afoul of Spider-Man actually gets the upper hand. However, the Rhino stops them from killing him. Seems that the big lug wants to retire, and doesn't want a murder rap on his head.

As the gang's leaving, Boomerang decides to finish Spidey off. Turn out Our Hero wasn't as down as he seemed, and makes short work of Boomerang. (I mean, come on, he's Boomerang). BRang is captured while the others flee, and this sets off a whole series of events that culminates in a huge riot in New York, as the Syndicate breaks apart and tries to kill each other.

This was an interesting read; I found two flaws. First, Hydro-Man did absolutly nothing. Everyone else had stuff going on, and he...didn't...

Second, decay of characterization. In the first two issues, the Beetle and Speed Demon had their characters built up, but in the last issue...that all kind of went away. Bummer.

Other than that, it's a great read, and cheap. I got m ine out of the dollar bin. ^__^

Thought of the moment: Ther original, green-skinned blue-clothed Dark Magician looks so much cooler than the purple one. THere, I said it...

Quote of the moment: "'Cuase I'm Kuwabara, and in case you've forgotten, I've got a sword!" -Kuwabara, "Yu Yu Hakusho"
