Yup, I'm a Geek
Sorry for the lag time in between posts; I had some problems with the wireless network my laptop uses. And now I see that Rayne has a laptop, too; we can be laptop buddies!
Well, be careful what you wish for; I spent the first three days of my internship wandering around, hopelessly seeking a task to occupy my time. (Since I have no desk or workstation, nor a specific person to report to, I'm basically a floater. ^^;)
Then, Thursday morning, one of my supervisers handed me a "little project". I have to check the current case status of hundreds of files that still have active warrents, to see if the warrent is valid any longer. The flies go all the way back to 1986!
This is one of those tasks that is too complicated to get into a mindless rythem with, while at the same time, is too, too boring to be easy going. My mind was jelly by the time five 'o clock came around.
Sadly, my ice-skating with Julia was postponed; she got caught in Friday-long weekend-city traffic, and was still on the road at seven thirty. Since open skate starts at 7:45, that was clearly a no-go, and she was too mentally exhausted to do anything else.
So, I went out to see the new Star Wars. I'd try to avoid spoilers, but...come on! We all know how it ends! General Grivous is cool, though; he joins Darth Maul, Jango Fett and Grand Moff Tarkin as cool bad guys who still pale in comparison to Vader, mostly because they don't last beyond one movie.
It was a good popcorn movie, and definatly the best of the prequels. Better than the originals? Probably not.
Although, I noticed two contradictions in the film. Before their final duel, Obi Wan tells Anakin that "Only a Sith deals in absolutes"; however, the Jedi believe that the Sith and the Dark Side are absolutly evil, even if someone wanted to use their abilities for a nobel cause, as Anakin did. In addition, Chancellor/Emperor Palpatine is able to tempt Anakin at first by telling him that there are many ways to look at things, and that no view is absolutely right. Yeah, that's a pretty major ideological contradiction, there.
In addition, the Jedi and Yoda constantly berate Anakin for acting on his emotions, yet one of the most popular Jedi sayings is "Trust your feelings", or "Search your feelings". No wonder Anakin felt isolated; the Jedi had several doble-standards, and weren't totally good.
Granted, I asked similar questions about the original trilogy: aside from the use of the Death Star, what did the Empire do that was so evil that they deserved such scorn? Not that blowing up Alderon was a nice thing, but that was about all they did to really screw over anyone but the Rebels.
Enough of that, then.
Saturday was the Lost Millenium pre-release, and I'll admit it was a bit of a disappointment. I only drew one holo card from my packs, and hardly enough magic or trap cards to support my monsters. I went 1-3, and didn't qualify to win more packs. ;_;
On the plus side, I did pull three King of All Skull Servents, and full set of all four Elemental Heroes. I'd like to build an E-Hero deck, as they'll have more and more support as time goes on. However, as it stands now, I'd only use E-Hero Thunder Giant, seeing as, not only is he better than Flame wingman, but his Fusion components are much stronger.
And Sunday, I did yard work. wh00t.
I work tonight, and I meet Julie for lunch on Tuesday, before going back to work. Yee-haw.
This week, I start my novel. ^__^
Thought of the moment: Happy Memorial Day; remember and honor the fallen.
Quote of the moment: "Thank God I wore underwear today."
Last Quote Answer: Han Solo, "Star Wars"
Song of the moment: "Can't Repeat", the Offspring
I woke the other day
And saw my world has changed
The past is over but tomorrow‘s wishful thinking
I can‘t hold onto what‘s been done
I can‘t grab onto what‘s to come
And I‘m just wishing I could stop, but
Life goes on
Come of age
Can‘t hold on
Turn the page
Time rolls on
Wipe these eyes
Yesterday laughs
Tomorrow cries
Memories are bittersweet
The good times we can‘t repeat
Those days are gone and we can never get them back
Now we must move ahead
Despite our fear and dread
We‘re all just wishing we could stop, but
Life goes on
Come of age
Can‘t hold on
Turn the page
Time rolls on
Wipe your eyes
Yesterday laughs
Tomorrow cries
With all our joys and fears
Wrapped in forgotten years
The past is laughing as today just slips away
Time tears down what we‘ve made
And sets another stage
And I‘m just wishing we could stop
Life goes on
Come of age
Can‘t hold on
Turn the page
Time rolls on
Wipe these eyes
Yesterday laughs
Tomorrow cries
