Katurashime whimpered, head held low. She couldn't take this anymore. The soft pads underneath her feet were now torn and bleeding. She had been walking for days on end, her stomach empty, throat burning for dehydration. She barely caught any sleep, afraid of every sound, every thing, that she heard or saw. She was haunted by nightmares...She felt that being so small was unnecessary.
Her fur was dull, covered with dirt, dust, and tiny insects irritating her skin. To many, she looked like one brown puppy with white and black spots, adventuring through life like a normal pup would want. But she wasn't adventuring on her choice...Something had happened to her that made her turn around.
Katurashime was born in a litter of 7, her mother an elegant German Sheperd, her father a cross between wolf and Tosa.
Out of all of her brother and sisters, she was the only one that resembled her father, half black, half white. Symbols were strewn around her body, oddly shaped.
But then again, out of all, she was the smallest. She sent the adult dogs of the pack worrying about her. She didn't want that to happen. She had pride.
Her family was with the Ninja-Dogs of Koga. But one night her family was taken from her.
"Let me go!" she screamed, frantically pulling away from her Nanny. But her babysitter held her firmly in her jaws.
"Katurashime..." she started. "Being the smallest, you are not allowed to go! We wouldn't want you to get hurt!"
"Then why are you sending mom and dad out there? Along with my brothers and sisters!" the young pup protested.
And that's when a cry was sent through the woods, into the small hut where puppies were sleeping with their caretakers.
Nanny realized this cry...a cry of pain, suffering, and death. And it was coming closer. Was it the enemy? No, too small for that!
Nanny quickly turned and ran through the small hole located behind her.
From there, she ran to the bank of a quick moving river. She dropped Katurashime down the side, having her land safely on the sand.
She got ready for her jump but was pulled back. Her claws dug into the dirt, trying to grasp something to hold her down.
It was no use. She was torn upwards, ripped apart. A muffled cry rang through Katurashime's ears, as she saw blood falling from the sky.
"Nanny!" she wanted to cry, but she held her tongue, careful not to have the giant enemy she had heard about locate her.
Her family was gone now, and everyone despised her for her size, power, and lack of ability. And that's when they asked her to leave. Forced her, more likely.
They had to rip her away, tear her from the only lasting memories she had left of her family. She was left an orphan.
After that, she vowed to grow bigger, stronger, quicker, and smarter than any dog there was, and she was taking this challenge seriously. She wouldn't let her own life slip between her paws.
...To be continued!
