my disastrous day at work
ok, so i started at 930 this morning at the car wash thing. annie and kelsey showed up an hour late and heather was getting very impatient. shortly after they and nikki got there, we heard brakes squeal and a wreck. i ran over to see some pickup plowed into the rear of a parked car. people were gathering, so i made sure the driver was ok, then went back to my car wash and let the others and the police (when they showed up) take care of it. i guess the guy was drunk.

some guy gave me the keys to his suburban to park somewhere when we were done washing it. then he went over to the city fair thing that was going on. as i was driving his truck to a spot brandon jumped in front of me screwing off. i told him i wasn't going to stop, so he jumped on the hood and rode it to a parking spot. there was a cone in the spot, so he jumped off to move it (or so i thought....turns out he fell off). after he landed, he twisted to run, stumbled and fell down under the suburban. luckily i was able to brake in time so i didn't flatten him (guess that's what we get for screwing off with large motor vehicles). annie and kelsey thought some guy just hit him in the parking lot and they both screamed and almost had heart attacks. then they saw me driving and knew we were goofing off.

about an hour before i got off work (1130 pm...14 hour day, 5 unpaid) some kid (16ish) with a backpack came into the store looking very suspicious. serena noticed him and let everyone know. he went into the bathroom with a 6-pack of smirnoff and came out without it. a couple of guys caught him at the door and asked him to stop. instead he tried running. they blocked him and forced him back into the store. he tried running around them and knocked over a display then plowed into the automatic doors (they didn't open fast enough) and knocked all 4 off the hinges. the 2 side doors are made to swing open in case of fire or something where the sliding doors don't open, but the middle ones are secured by a belt that causes them to open and close and he ripped that belt off. we got him into the office and the police came and took him away (my company's in the habit of pressing charges for anything like that, so he's screwed). what coulda been a minor shoplifting and MIP charge will now turn into those plus destruction of property and possibly evading arrest and vandalism. we found the six pack of smirnoff in his backpack (one bottle almost half empty) along with several empty beer cans. dumb kid shoulda just stopped.

some good news to cheer you up...over the weekend we raised $213 for kolena's family (girl that lost the baby) plus the donations from inside the store (in the deposit buckets) and the donations from vicky's work (vicky used to work with kolena but got a new job and managed to raise money there too). overall, we prolly made her about $400-$500 or so. for two days, that's not too bad i think. we didn't open vicky's envelope, so we dunno how much is in there, so it might even be a lot more.
